Gov. Sonny Perdue on Thursday reiterated his opposition to permitting alcohol sales on Sunday and said he isn't persuaded by those who say let the people vote on the issue.

Bologna, if he veto's it, there should be NO SALES period, ANYWHERE!

I can buy a beer at the game for economic reasons and then drive home, but I cannot buy a beer to drink at home? Please explain!

some on should veto perdues ***

My guess is that he was also opposed to allowing people to vote to have Governors restricted from using tax paid helicopters to take their kids to sporting events. OOPS Sonny!
This is the same bozo who wants John McCain to take him on as the V.P. running mate, folks. |

Why is it the wrong thing to do one day out of the week. Sunday sales would allow people to go home instead of driving home from a bar or resturant.

Add that Sonny also keeps his mouth shut on Sundays and I'm with it.

When exactly is this Bozo's term up? I can't wait for him to be out of office. He's embarrassed this state way too much.

The elected government officials shoule respect the wishes of the people who put them in office. That is the basis of our government. But somehow we have gotten away from that point and our officials do what they think is best. If the people want the law changed, then it should be changed.

come... this bible banger has got to stop imposing his moral compass upon others...

Sonny needs to take a basic Government and Civics class. We live in a democratic republic. That means the people vote for representatives to represent them in their decisions, not to make decisions contrary to their wishes.
Guess what happens to individuals who consistently vote against the will of those who put them in office? They don't get re-elected. |

The reason for the current ban on Sunday liquor sales is solely based on religion, specifically the christian religion. What of Seventh Day Adventists or Jewish People? Their Sabbath falls on Saturday. Should we also ban Saturday sales? There should be no ban on Sunday alcohol sales. Your bullshit response the sales would allow people to go home instead of driving from a bar or restaurant clearly shows your lack of education. You ASSume people would be at bars or restaurants on Sunday rather than home because they’re able to purchase liquor. What’s wrong with going to a restaurant on Sunday anyway? Both bars and restaurants are open on Sunday and both are permitted to sell alcohol on Sunday. Any bar which desires to sell alcohol simply needs to serve food that day. You obviously don’t understand what’s going on. This is directed toward retail sales. Carry out, think grocery store. Some place someone can purchase a bottle of wine or a six pack and take it to go. The ban on Sunday sales should be stricken down solely on the US Constitution. The christian law imposes their morality on others. How is that fair to others? If you think it’s wrong to purchase alcohol on Sunday then don’t, it’s your choice. Your choice shouldn’t be forced on others. As for my motives. I don’t drink, don’t care anything about alcohol. But, I do defend the Constitution, as should you. |

Dude, chill. He's in agreement with you. He's commenting on the hypocrisy of the state allowing liquor sales at restaurants and bars on Sunday, but not grocery stores. |

You're right. His approach is odd. I had to read it twice more.
“Why is it the wrong thing to do one day out of the week.” I read that to read what’s wrong with the ban, it’s just one day a week. “Sunday sales would allow people to go home instead of driving home from a bar or resturant.” Read this is the above thought. Maybe I'm just growing a bit weary of being thumped with bibles. I’m seeing stars. |

I just noticed, Topix edited my post. The **** was just BS, nothing horrible. If they want to censor that word maybe 8 asterisks would be more appropriate. Not all words worthy of censorship are just 4 letters.

Prohibition didn’t work in the 1930’s. What makes you think it would work today? Prohibition increased crime 561% according to some sources.
Yes, drunkenness does destroy lives. But, are those lives theirs to destroy? Many thing destroy lives. You know the number one reason for divorce? It’s money. Maybe we should enact legislation to make everyone rich. I can understand why you could think banning alcohol sales on Saturday would be a good idea. It simply isn’t a good idea. You must consider unintended consequences. I personally don’t care what people put into their own bodies. It’s their body and if they choose to destroy it, no problem. I don’t drink, smoke or take drugs. I must be a good christian right? Just because I choose not to drink it’s not up to me to make a decision for others. Banning sales does exactly that. |

Currently, the Georgia Constitution reads that "No money shall ever be taken from the public treasury, directly or indirectly, in aid of any church, sect, cult or religious denomination or any sectarian institution."
Georgia's Blue Laws are clearly premised on support for one religion over all others, which, seems to violate the basic intent of Georgia's separation clause. Also, since it takes state money to administer these religion-based laws, blue laws are a direct violation of Georgia's constitution. |

This is nothing more than Sonny Purdue forcing the rules of his paticular faith on the rest of us.
It has but one solution. Toss him and any politician who supports his religious ban on sunday sales. It is the only thing a politician understands. |

Now let me get this straight, Our idiot Gov thinks its OK to get hammered in a bar or resturant and drive home and maybe kill someone--BUT he's not in favor of us purchasing BEER/BOOZE in a Grocery or 7-11 and taking it home to drink. Go Figure!!This is the same GOV that apparently will not enforce the illegal drug sales 3 blocks from the State Capital. Wow,I sure am proud to have people like that making LAWS for me, how bout all ya'll.
