If used properly, a taser will immobilize the subject, thus allowing the arresting officer(s) ample time to place the suspect into restraints. This sounds like they made this kid their punching bag, then decided to taser him to justify them having a little fun with him before hand.
What a shame. Although I realize that there are two sides to every story, whis the offices arm broken if he used a taser to restrain him. I have been shot with pepper spary, tasered and such during police academy, among other things. I know how it feels, it is not pleasent...

For starters, this kid should have been taught to have respect for adults, especially a police officer!! He was simply asked his name. He needed to answer accordingly. Your first mistake kid! And the "abuse" issue? I work in a program that deals with children ages 5-12 with behavioral issues. It doesn't matter if it's one of the 5 yr olds or 12 yr olds, if they're having a bad day and start to "go off", it sometimes takes 3 adults to get them under control and that's without a laser gun! If this kid's adrenaline was flowing, I'm sure those officers could have used more help to subdue this mouthy kid. How about reviewing the respect issue Mom!!

They should charge the kid with assault on an officer. Maybe next time he will not break the law by shoplifting, and when a Police officer approaches him, he won't get so mouthy and physical.

This kid was overwhelmingly disrespectful, and got what he deserved. He was asked a simple question, and failed to cooperate. I blame poor parenting.

This kid is a moron, and was obviously hiding something. Poor parenting is to blame for starters, and maybe this knocked some sense into this 13 year old kid who is on track for the state penatentiary.

I think this kid deserved exactly what he got. Even in his interview, from his own statement, it sounds like he mouthed off to the officers and although the photos don't show it, injured a cop. I work for Rural Metro and I know Jack is a good guy. I think this is crappy that they want to throw his name in the mud for doing his job. Police brutality? Nice joke, this is just a case of a mouthy teen acting out of line and trying to be rewarded for it. He deserves no attention for this.

You people are all sick. Regardless of how much disrespect a teenager, who is just a kid, gives a cop, they don't deserve to be beaten.

I do agree that he shouldn't have been so disrespectful and that he should have just given his name, but to do what the cops did is just sick.

They are overusing their power excessively and if I was that kid's parents, there would be some accountability.

I was a mouthy kid, to parents and authority, but not once got attacked by pathetic police officers. Think someone needs some anger management courses, and it's not the kids.

Well, next time a peace officer asks for his name, maybe he will comply.

Damn kids with their parents supporting their insubordination to law enforcment...

That's what the kid gets. Doubtlessly this kid answers to no one in his life--parents, teachers, or armed police officers.

Today's youth cannot be told to do anything. They must be "persuaded." I teach high school and we sometime have to resort to one of our three assigned officers in order to get a student to simply pick up after himself during lunch.
