I live in Kenmore. It is a middle class neighborhood. I can't speak for the school system because my son attending Buffalo and now williansville schools. I always visited the schools, talked to the staff and went to the PTA meetings. It was always important to me that the parents were involved. I remembered that when my son attended a charter school in Buffalo- ALL parents attended. The same in the Williamsville school system. The also went to their child's performances and activities. Every year the Business First will rate the schools. This could be your starting point whether it would be Public or Private. You might be able to find a current copy at the Kenmore/Ton public library. http://www.wgrz.com/news/news_article.aspx... http://www.greatschools.net/city/Tonawanda/NY http://realestate.yahoo.com/New_York/Buffalo/... I have had more problems in this district getting the help my child needed. They are all about labeling and getting more money. If you have a child that has a slight "disability" as they call it, you will forever be battling the district. Had I listened to them, my child would be doomed to the life of someone with severe handicaps. Because of my issues, I have spoken to numerous parents and it's all the same. If you must live in Ken-Ton go to a catholic school, there are many good ones. But if you want the best school for your money, move to Williamsville.(The KenTon area is going downhill quick, so if you can afford to go further away from the city do it!)

My experience with them goes back more then 25 years and yes they did label both my children. My oldest child they wanted her to repeat kindergarden and then put her in a pre--first which meant that she was going to do first grade over again the next year . I could not stop it at the time and she was sent to the pre-first until one day the teacher had text written all over the board and my daughter read it aloud with no help. They called me and took her out.( Just a side note she is now 40 and next month going to be inducted into the oldest honor society in the country.) She still goes to school to better her education. They were wrong! My youngest daughter had a variety of issues and they suggested she had learning disabilites but the truth is she was bi-polar and things for her have been a struggle. They were probably not equipped for that diagnosses. In conclusion the truth is that this can happen in any school district it is not just exclusive to Kenmore Tonawanda.

Sounds like nothing has changed in 25 years. The problem with this district is that they dont want to hear what the PARENT has to say. I brought my own therapists with me that actually worked with my child. The so-called parernt advocated is useless too.

You are right on when you say its all about money. I dont know why, but from what I understand the kenton school district is bringing students in from all over now. They are labeled "homeless". One student comes in from Eden. Rules used to be, if you dont live in the district you cant go to school here. Does anyone know why the district does this? Maybe they get money from the state.

I do remember that I felt that anything I said really realy did not matter. But as I said above in the case of my oldest daughter they were wrong and they were not buying what I said but did change their mind when they were convinced themselves. But as I said before I am not so sure that this would not have happened in other districts. Remember they are all under NYS guidelines.

I have done plenty of research on school districts in western new york, and it may happen everywhere but next to Buffalo, Kenton is way up there with unhappy parents. Looking at the test scores school by school, Kenton is not doing well.

I had three kids attend Ken-Ton schools. My first two kids had a very good education, but I could see that by the time my youngest graduated in 2002 the quality was going downhill. The Ken-ton area is a very affordable, safe place to live, but as far as the schools are concerned I would send my kids to Catholic or private schools. The Catholic schools in the Ken-Ton area are very good.

Maybe they get money from the state. or their million dollar budget, that goes up year after year! every parent is given a pick up time in september for their kids, but if the kid isnt there, they will send another bus to pick him up anyhow. so what is the purpose of the pick up times? how much do you think this district spends on gas and pay for two drivers to pick up one kid? how about what it costs in gas for the new head of transportation to follow the busses around trying to catch the drivers doing something wrong? if the drivers passed the road tests with state inspectors they should be qualified. is he there to straighten out the problems with transportation department or is he there to straighten out the transporters? taxpayers need to know what's going on in this district and how their money is truly being spent before we vote again.

Maybe you know... Is it true that the district is bussing kids in from Buffalo? Paying a driver and a bus aid. Is this something the new head of transportation is doing? If this is true, the taxpayers should be able to vote on stuff like this. Used to be when we were kids, there was one bus stop in our nieghborhood. We had to get to it or else we walked.

The Town of Tonawanda is a nice, affordable place to live. I would recommend looking for a house in the Town of Tonawanda that is in the Sweet Home school district and not KTT.

Very nice, very affordable, and Sweet Home is a much better school district.

If he's going to food establishments, or going home take pictures. Find out what he drives, and where he lives. He will eventually screw up. Make sure you have a video phone or camera. Get as many other co-workers cell numbers, and text eachother when you see him on the road. He's always late for work and always goes home early. Dont let him imtimidate you. Williamsville couldn't wait to get rid of him, he wont last long at ken-ton.

Kenmore-Tonawanda is a friendly, middle-class community. The test scores in the schools are comparable to many of the suburban districts. But definitely do your research and find your own answers. Forums like this tend to bring out the folks who have an ax to grind. Not to make light of any problems they may have had but you could post a question about any school district and somebody would come forward with a complaint.

Also, people in the Buffalo area tend to be very racist so any time they see a black person walking down the street it means the neighborhood is going bad. Look at statistics and look at the area for yourself to make a decision!

in regard to the new transportation leader. maybe you need to get your facts straight or maybe you should have paid attention at the meeting when he said he would be out on the road checking for safety issues. when was the last time (or first time) an administrator was readily available at an accident scene or transportation issue? they all sit at there desks and expect you to make decisions on the road. just do your job and you won't have to worry about being followed.
