Flood victims focus ire on utility's dams

let me preface this by saying , i am really and truly sorry for any losses the residents of that region may have incurred , BUT ,why is it always someone elses fault ? you live by a RIVER. rivers sometimes flood , thats nature. the river has flooded before and in all likelyhood will flood again. if you are concerned about flooding , then move AWAY from the river . just as stated in the article , "They knew the water was coming," Mansfield said. "We had snow, and the rain was forecast. Why didn't they let some water out?" by the same token , why didnt YOU get out ? why is everything always someone elses fault ? those facilities are power producing hydroelectric dams , not flood control dams.

Yep, these are Indiana's versions of those in California who rebuild in wild fire or landslide prone areas, only to use the "wooo is me" card and get federal or state financial support the next time it happens. My tax money going to disaster relief is one thing...and I support it; going to stupidity and stubbornness is quite another.

I have to agree with the other posters. Don't point the finger at anyone else except yourself. You knew the rain and snow was there, do you need someone else to hold your hand?
Do you have to pay flood insurance? If so, that should alone be the hint you need to realize that it will flood in your area. I think your best bet is to go sue mother nature herself. She should have known better to give you all the rain and snow. Go file another insurance claim, get you a new pretty new house, let the floods come again because you are to stupid to move away from the river. |

I'm sorry I forgot to proofread this article before it was posted on our website. It is too late now for anyone that reads carefully. We were in a huge hurry to get this story up on our website and let everyone see the whiners that live along the river.

you got it dude. the houses that flooded were below the dam. if you live below the dam next to the river, you WILL be flooded. stop blaming someone else for you bad decision to live there.

If there was no failure or breach of water containment, it's just high water. If you live near a river there is a chance of flooding.

It sounds like there just setting up the utility for a law suite, they see a company with deep pockets and there want money. These "river rats" are only after the money. They should not be able to rebuild in a floor zone. And if the do they should not be able to get government assents again.

Don't live in a flood plain & this won't be a problem.

"They knew the water was coming," Mansfield said. "We had snow, and the rain was forecast. Why didn't they let some water out?"
They knew it was coming. YOU knew it was coming. Why didn't YOU sandbag to protect your home? Why didn't YOU better weather-proof your home from flooding (irrigation, drainage flow, etc)? Why is it always someone else's fault when YOU didn't do anything in the first place? Show me that YOU did everything lawfully you could to prevent the flood waters from coming and that NIPSCO didn't do anything in thier power to stop it (unlawful) and I will personally pay for your attorneys' fees to sue NIPSCO... Until then: Gut It, Clean It, Rebuild it. Oh, and don't forget, there's a chance your house WILL FLOOD AGAIN if more rain comes. |

WHO GAVE THE BUILDING PERMITS TO BOILD BELOW A DAM.WHO WOULD BE DUMB ENOUGH TO LIVE BELOW A DAM.WHAT GOES UP MUST COME DOWN SOMETIME.I BET THESE PEOPLE PLAY THE LOTTERY TOO.SAYL

|
All the houses were built prior to building and planning regulations--I will guarentee you that no farmer was stupid enough to build in a floodplain |
|
|
Not unlike the people of New Orleans that want to use my hard earned money to rebuild a city by the sea that is below sea level. FILL IT IN AND BUILD ON TOP OF THE PILE. Duh!

|

NOT NIPSCO...THEIR RATES ARE THE HIGHEST OF ALL AND ONE CANNOT EXPECT ANYTHING BUT MONEY GRUB FROM THEM---CHECK THE POLITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS ...

Most of those complaining did not have flood insurance, and many of those said that they could not afford flood insurance. So, there is a simple question to be asked - if you cannot afford flood insurance how can you afford to rebuild, without government assistance, if it does flood?
As other posters have said. If you build in a flood plain, it is only a question of when it will flood and not if it will. |

I love these people that live in a flood plain and complain about the floods. What am I missing here???

Dear Mad Bovine,
Know your facts before you scribble your gibberish. A run of the river dam is not supposed to control floods? You are correct. However when that dam disrupts normal river flow by holding the water at the dam for 6 hours until water level is within a foot of the dam's top, then increases output by more than 300 million gallons per hour all at once, the dam has then officially CREATED a flood. Like I said, know your facts and get a job. |

1 first of all , i have gainful employment . secondly , you know these allegations of "holding" water to be true and factual ? if you can provide any proof of these allegations then i certainly would like to see the information. third and most importantly , why would you spew your "gibberish" if you cannot provide the aforementioned proof ? PROVE your statement and get a job. |
