A Norwalk man was behind bars today accused of a hit and run murder that began with a fight outside a Downey bar, according to authorities.

The bigger problem is violence. We have made it a right of passage in the media. Kids with guns, kids on the streets, kids on drugs - made into heroes. The grow up to be adults with guns, adults on the streets, adults on drugs, completely jaded. Hit and run murder is not racial - it's straight out violence with not much fear of reprisal. The only fear is that we will fall victim to it at some time. The guy is dead no matter what neighborhood he was killed in.

I agree parents are to blame to some extent, but peer pressure
today is very strong. And since kids are bussed in and are driven
by their parents into schools when they live out of the district,
it is almost impossible for parents to know who their kids' friends are. I would not want to be a parent today.

I am sorry if your feelings were hurt because of my comments. But a lot parts of downey are ghetto, run-down and crime-ridden. I say this because the crime from Paramount is spilling into this city. Just in the vecinity of Lakewood blvd./Imperial Hwy, there has been a dramatic increase in crime. I am not ignorant, or ghetto. I am just telling it like it is.

Parts of No. Downey are very nice and have not yet been affected by this cancerous violence. Hopefully it'll stay nice longer and not be affected by the violence, crime around it.

Unfortunately, when the city of Paramount built the WalMart on the corner
of Rosecrans and Lakewood and Downey built the big box market we started getting a lot
of gang type looking kids wandering around the neighborhood. I dont know if they
are gang members but they try hard to look like them. We are constantly painting
over grafitti. WalMart had only been open a few weeks when gangs started hanging out there. DPD cant do anything about them but they do patrol our neighborhood more now and it has helped.

and downey is not that ghetto. things have changed a lot in this town since i was a kid, but i don't think it's ghetto.

Downey isn't ghetto, by any means. Ghetto individuals and groups of ghetto individuals keep acting up within its city limits, however.

I lived in downey for years and let me tell you the city is beautiful , although violence is everywhere . Not just in the ghetto . I feel for this guy but hey maybe people should get another hobby besides getting drunk all the time .
