Large Marge - did you or did you not read the article??
The Lion's Club purchased the animal and donated it. It is generally the purchaser that gets to name the animal, and the Lion's named it in honor of the Lions Club. IF you want creative names, buy an animal for the Zoo, donate it, and you can name it. Wondering |

Why not name one after Salsa?

Thank you Lions club. Those of us that grew up with Salsa will always miss her but it is great to know that the newest generation of kids will love these horses just as much.

"Duke" got his name in a contest the city held last summer. The little girl that won gave a speech about how she came up with the name, very cute. "Leo" got his name because it was the Lions Club that purchased him. Get it? Leo - Lion? Who cares about "press worthy", things like this help to bring the city together as a community. Dukes birthday celebration last summer was great, face painting, coloring books, toys, cupcakes/juice, all for free, lots of kids, fun stuff, lots of neighbors there. Bringing in little Duke really helped my 3 year old start understanding the concept of the "circle of life" after the passing of her beloved Salsa. |

"Get it? Leo - Lion?" Uh, DUH!!! But how much publicity did this generate outside of Whittier....ZILCH! Just once I'd like to see our community highlighted OUTSIDE of Whittier, and for something other than crime! We need to start thinking outside the box, folks! |

Salsa was a donkey.:) Oh and btw are both of the new horses female??? I went the other day but the area was closed (Thursday). They are both adorable. Thank you!! |
