Fireworks displays here are nothing compared to what they do in NY and other places. I can't believe people here get so excited over the stupid stuff done here.

It was 15 minutes of solid fireworks. I was on the Friendship Fountain South Bank...great reverb off the buildings and you can see the reflections in the buildings.

Does business promotion by the city confuse you? Do you understand that vendors and restuarants pay taxes, purchase permits and provide employment?

And just exactly how many full time jobs were created because of this wasteful event? And how much money did people waste on gas with detours around the closed Acosta and the Main Street Bridge. And how much money did the city spend with extra law enforcement?

How many full time jobs are created by xyz.....

I admit that I am not an economist.

What is the economic impact of these events to a city? Jaguar Football games, GA/FLA Football, Super Bowl, Gator Bowl.....I guess that you are right. These one day things really have no money connected to them.

Your brilliance is dimminished by the inability to see past the nose on your face. The economic impact on these things to THIS city is tremendous.

Cups, beer, port-o-potties, food, trash bags, cleaners....the list goes on and on and on.....

Y'all really showed your hand on this topic. You're a bunch of pseudo-Capitalists. You really have no clue as to what it take to make the world go around. Money is like MANURE...It works best when you spread it around.

Y'all just get the second half of the saying..you just spread a bunch of manure....

I didn't know that the Super Bowl was free to the public.hahahah ... Where there are ticket sales there are taxes as well... Plus most people ate at home being that the 4th is traditionally known for cookouts, and there were no motels being sold out of rooms..

Try again..

The Super Bowl and Gator Bowl all have free acvtivities...and free fireworks. This is a waste of my time. You do not comprehend basic business practices.

In other words you concede the argument, plus you are making yourself look like an airhead because its not the fireworks that draw people to the Super Bowl or Gator Bowl ...

I concede nothing. I just know that this is going nowhere. You fail to see the residual monies made from an event..any event are significant. The ticket sales alone at a Super Bowl do not equal $335 MILLION. There are MILLIONS made on other things.

The Fireworks Festival was nice and a family event which many people enjoyed. Our fireworks are superior to many which I have seen. This money was well spent by the City of JAX.

It is not worth my time to argue with you.

You concede nothing because you have no honor.. And while the fireworks festival was nice and a family event which many people enjoyed, there were many more people trying to figure out as to how to put food on the table , pay their mortgage, electric bill and just basically survive, while the mayor crys for more tax money..

I'm trying to be civil with you in debate, why don't you try doing the same?

And some people think we are the same person...go figure....

So cancelling the fireworks would have helped the city, how? I am sure that there is REAL waste in the City budget, but the annual fireworks celebration of our Nation's 233rd birthday may not be it.

The money that was wasted on the fireworks could have paid the salaries of 2 library workers for a year .. There is nothing to show for the money that was wasted with the fireworks and thats a fact..

If you wanted to celebrate the nation's 233rd birthday you should have done it on your own dime...
