Think anybody will notice they aren't at "work"? When you're in a hospital and really NEED one of these overpaid gargoyles,
you can't get one. They're all in the breakroom playing pool or something. If they don't like their cushy jobs, let'em quit, and go get a job in the real world like the rest of us. |

Please tell me this is a typo...."will raise the average nurse's salary to $140,000 per year." Is that accurate? If it is, no wonder the health care system is going down the toilet. If the average nurse is getting $140,000 per year, that's awesome. And yes, I know nurses work hard, but 140k per year, that's spectacular. I can't get my mind around an RN making more than some MDs. How is this sustainable? Too many people have too many expectatins for healthcare. Everyone wants a perfect system, with top notch care and no delays, but nobody wants to pay for it.

As a healthcare professional these "strikes to better patient care", makes me sick! These Nurses make how much? And yes sometimes especially in ER rooms the ratios may not meet the requirements. Did you think it was going to be a desk job? This is the world you chose, utilize the Certified Nursing Assistant's and get the job done. As many times as I have been in the ER room at Rideout hospital and watched many nurses sitting in a bunch, laughing, and chatting. Or leaning on the counters visiting and discussing last nights dinner. While the halls were overflowing and gurneys everywhere. Even in the nursing stations on the numerous floors of Fremont/Rideout hospitals this happens too often. If "patient Care" is your concern then why are you not going patient to patient and seeing what you can do to make them more comfortable while they are there. You are not doing me any favors by striking! The money that this will cost the communities, in jobs and various projects will be crippling. If you have it so bad then quit and go somehwere else. And to be honest part of the reason that these hospitals have poor reputations are largely due to the poor customer service we have recieved by employees representing the hospitals such as nurses... As for me, a resident of Yuba City/Marysville, I see many efforts of the administration to improve in many areas, including staffing. And I see thier commitment to the community.

140K per year! This makes me sick. I guess I made terrible life choices, I've spent 8 years in school getting a Ph.D. in chemical physics from the #1 ranked university in the world... and I might make 100K when I graduate (that is, if I "drop out" and take an industrial R&D job) When my wife was in the hospital it was like pulling a stubborn mule trying to get the nurses to do ANYTHING.(for instance, giving scheduled pain meds, my wife would be crying in agony 2 hours past the time her pain meds were due before I could finally coax one of these lazy bums into bringing her meds in) In my opinion, this should be a 35K a year job based on schooling/difficulty.

Anything higher than 70k for only working 3 to 4 days a week is to much for anyone. Nurses need to realize that everybody puts in hard work in this world. If nurses want 140k, shouldn't we all. I support nursing in the sense that nurses work very hard to take care of crazy, weird, and rude people...but 70k should be enough for 3 to 4 days off a week.

I have worked in the health care field for over 46 years. If you want good nursing care, stop requiring the hospitals to hire all RNs. Most of the bedside patient care can be delivered by LVNs. Once these Nurses get all this education they don`t want to work.
LVNs and Nursing Assistants do most of the hands on nursing care in a hospital. They work for a lot less than $140,00.00 a year. Most of the time these RNs do sit on their butt and BS. They write up a few 'canned nursing care plans" and make uup some assignments , call it a tough day. Go back Associate Degree Nurses and LVNs.Need maybe one RN around when a highpowered question comes up like whose turn it is to dump the trash. Things like that. |
