The Indians had a nice little entrpreneurship selling cigarets to people who don't think the federal and state governments should be horning in on their personal choices. Recently, a law was passed that prevents the sale of cigarets through the mail. As of June, they will all be closing up shop.

By the same token, the US mail service may be cut to five days for lack of business. Cigarets are the most overly taxed commodity in use today. The taxes have been supposedly used to support the SCHIPS program but with this last avenue of recourse closed, cigaret sales will dip even more. The unintended consequence of this will be additional taxes on other products...soft drinks, salt and salted foods, foods made with transfats, confections such as candy and baked goods. If some government study comes out with the somber news that a product is "bad" for you, expect a tax to follow.

Perhaps this is part of the reason why the FEDS are beginning to poke their noses into the internet. The mail service will soon become obsolete since private carriers are effective in delivering packages. They are looking for a way to tax commerce on line to make up for their own ill-conceived judement.

In any case, the Indians lose this one with their livlihood destroyed. And thus we see the impact of an intrusive government that cannot siphon enough money from its subjects. Perhaps the Indians can go on Welfare. A government dependent society is the unltimate goal, anyway.
