Given the numbers of Union skilled trades out of work at this time and the fact that unions built this Country before corporate greed took over wouldn't it be nice if it was built UNION?

Could you explain how unions built this country ? Did unions start the railroads or auto manufacturers or settle the west ? Big Biz and Americans built this country, union money did not get invested in companies, it was put in union leaders pockets. If Caterpiller builds non union it is their choice. If unions don't like it they can start their own company, spend what they want to build a plant, spend what they want to pay their people, and put caterpiller out of biz. Unions are by definition, parasites " an organism that grows, feeds, and lives on or in another organism to whose survival it contributes nothing"

half or more of the parts are already manufactured over seas !, dozers from a d-6 on down are manufactured over seas!, dozers from d-7 0n up are still manufactured here. but it doesent matter cat is still the largest supplier of heavy equipment in the us and they want to build a parts wharehouse that is centrally located for efficent distribution to contractors.

so bottom line it creates some good paying jobs for people in that area which is needed and the fact its in ohio is even better. and the idiot obama hasnt a damn thing to do with it!, he couldnt if he wanted !, its all about good business decisions on cats part tp distribute parts which will be around for a long time. so congradulations to clayton ohio!

It seems to me that some of you need a good history lesson.
The conditions in most of the early manufacturing plants in THIS Country were deplorable and dangerous. If you said anything or got hurt they just replaced you. You had few if any recourse.
Now thanks to the labor unions the individual worker has rights. OSHA and the NLRB have all come about because of Labor rights. Unions played an important role in getting people their rights. Or as Bob put it do you feel that us Union "parasites" don't deserve our rights.
If you do your research you will find that most of the conditions that todays workers have, Union and non union alike were brought about by Union workers. Not all Unions are alike and some get a lot of bad press. Thanks mostly to anti union Republican owned papers and news agencies.
All im saying is before you spout all this anti Union bull**** DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

I need no homework, you just defended unions on what they did a long time ago. Unions produce nothing and never have but they have struck in unison to raise pay and benifits to the point companies are out of biz. Look at the UAW, they co-ordinated strikes to harm their employer as much as possible, that's gratitude. Now we have lost 30 billion in a bailout. I do not know of any agencies around at the time I chose my stance but maybe you want to blame fox news. Why were unions even invited to the jobs summit, they will not start any company and invest union money in it, why ? Horse and buggy was fine, until the auto was invented, should we stick with horse and buggy because they did us well fifty years ago. I responded to a post that said unions built this country and asked the poster to show how unions built this country. If you can do some homework and show me how unions built this country I will read it. Freedom built this country, not unions, and individuals with ideas led the way. If we started out with a union mentality we would not have grown to the worlds greatest power by the time unions took hold. And if Obama turns to the SEIU for jobs ideas like at the jobs summit, you can bet the SEIU is telling Obama what biz owners should do and will not be telling Obama about their plans to invest in and build a new company. How have the teachers unions helped public education ? You can see a decline in education as you see the increase in union teachers.

Why haven't the people complained about all the taxbreaks given to foreign companies to build plants here. They sure come outta the woodwork to cry about unions though. That's 1 way to tell wether they weren't hired for a union job.
BTW, I'm sure the police, fire, teachers, nurses and postal unions love you crybabies......

I work for the State, our union sucks let me tell you. All unions do today is protect bad employees. An employee who would usually be fired is saved. I could care less if work is done by a union employee or non-union employee as long as we have jobs which currently most Americans don't. I don't care who builds this Cat building as long as it actually gets built and employees Ohioans.

Hey, did you ask the union boss for a cut in dues? Is boss still getting a paycheck? How much of your dues are going to the fat left cats who came up with the idea to give mortgages to people who couln't afford them in the first place...yeah, the tradesmen had jobs, but, look at the long term cost and effect of tampering with good business principals and responsibility? All for what? We will all be China men soon if we don't reign in this crazy cycle!

Cat Logistics warehouses are non-unionized and this one will be too. Meaning this place will be cost-effective, efficient, and maybe even profitable. Imagine that.

We can no longer afford the free-lunch, fat, dumb and happy economics of the unionized, post war years. Margins are lean, competition for everything (capital, labor, products) is tough. Unionized companies can barely survive or not at all (see GM, Chrysler, their suppliers, tire companies, steel companies, etc.) The union growth now is with public sector government jobs - super-inefficient and draining the country's tax coffers dry. And the Democrats keep throwing money at them and demanding more from taxpayers.

Rick,
Clever retort. Doesn't make any sense, but then again neither does unionization these days. Give me a unionized company, or a unionized area, that's doing strong? I'll give you A TON of non-union companies making money even in this economy.(Cat Logistics is one, so is Honda..and btw Cat Logistics is an American company..speaking of the sniffles of jobs going overseas)

You're an idiot, and a dinosaur. You and your union ilk are to blame for companies going overseas. Who can blame them? Cost out of control, ridiculous "union work rules", etc.

Oh, and btw...I'm a former member of the UAW; as well as 3 other unions. and not honorary..I worked those factory floors at plants now closed or closing. Did you? I doubt it.

Daily Horoscope for February 13

Scorpio

Resistance from others arises with regard to your efforts. You may strike trouble with in-laws or close associates and there could even be a move against you. Take the time to consult with everyone about what they want and then try to work in with them. If you have any problems with legal people or folk from overseas, tread carefully. Don't let your lifestyle betray your beliefs.
