Jayar,
Always heard the cop dragging the horse story as a child growing up. Parents grew up and met in Bushwick in the 1920's - 40's. Stories about Kosciusko, Bushwick and Evergreen were always told. They moved to the Bronx dad when returned from "the war" and lived briefly in the quonset huts (don't know what Bronx neighborhood) until Jacob Riis Houses on the Lower East Side were build and filled with returning vets. Guess I will have to dig further to find out what the street number and cross were. Great stuff you have here. Sending this link to my eldest brother so if you hear from a Frank H.... be prepared. |

Henry Miller was a 13-year-old teenager walking along Kosciusko Street when his life as a writer began. It was 1905 Brooklyn and on every street corner you could buy a cheap crime paperback for ten cents.
