Why don't we have a full time Police Officer, it would be a good idea. Why won't the Mayor hire one?

Cause they don't want to pay the money it takes to keep one so they see it better to keep the money and let the county and ksp do all the work................and they can't figure out why there is so much crime and drugs being handed around in Brodhead. Pathetic

Seems to me they always have such bad luck when hiring a police officer in,they have a bad background which Brodhead did not look further into, hell the last one they hired almost broke the city...my opinion they are no good cops, all around the county they know everyone almost by name and most are crooked too, dont get me wrong they are still a few good ones out there who tries to clean up the place!

All small towns wish they could have a city cop, Crab Orchard wishes they had one too. Truth is it cost small towns too much money. People don't know what are all the hidden costs. State mandates hazardous duty retirement. It's up to about 30% of their wages, a hidden cost. Also a state program that pays for continuous training, thats an additional 300 bucks a month. Then you have to offer some kind of health insurance, thats another 500- 600 dollars a months. One week a year you have to send them to school for updated training. Then theres patrol car costs, car insurance, civil liability insurance. Then of course uniforms and wages. What it costs to pay a policemans wages is a small part of the total cost to have a officer on duty.

A couple of years ago there was a guy that came up in our back yard with a machete (no lie) and chopped something down. At the time, I didnt know what he was there for and when the cat who was watching this from inside the house made a noise he ran off. Well I got up and ran outside and seen that he had chopped down a HUGE pot plant. I went inside and called the police not to get the pot lol, but to find the guy who came up in my back yard. Well, it took a hour just to get the law to my house from they said Mount Vernon but it only takes about ten minutes for us to drive from there to home. When he got here, I told him what happened and I asked why it took so long? He told me that he was coming from Berea and I told him well Im glad that he didnt try to come in the house and rape me or something. He said and I quote, it might have taken longer if there had actually been something wrong. I was shocked and he gathered up the other two tiny pot plants and left. He didnt search the place for the guy, he walked around my backyard, asked me why I had pot growing in the backyard and I told him I didnt even know what it was and at the time I didnt. We definitely need some type of law in this town or atleast some closer.

One reason is because they say they cant afford one. Secondly I have heard from a very well respected citizen that the city officials are dirty as hell. Not to mention the mayor doesnt want a cop cause not only would he go to jail his family that do and deal will too
