Clovis is a HORRIBLE place to live

For all of the folks that think that Clovis, NM is a good place to be, you better re-think that answer. For all of the folks that want to relocate to there, I wouldn't do it unless you want to live in a small town where you cant make any money and have lousy internet and cable, and have nothing to do except watch the cows crap in the fields or do crystal meth. To all of the people that want to leave, I don't blame you at all. The best thing about Clovis is leaving it and not coming back. Bring in real private industry and do some real economic development and watch that place grow, otherwise, it will stay Hazzard County. Sucks to be you.

IDK why "The powers that be" deleted the original clovis sucks thread, but this seems like a good place to continue that discussion.

For everyone who is PCS'ing here, don't believe the BS. This place is a pure craphole. I rank this place in terms of third world nation qualities, and sometimes I feel like I'm not even in America anymore.

Small town corruption, little to no economic growth, nothing for the younger generations to do there, yep really nice.

Well, just move out of Clovis if you don't like it. Let me tell you though. THERE ARE WORSE PLACES TO LIVE. I lived in Clovis & now due to my husband's relocation (Air Force) we live someone else & it SUX. I never thought I would say Clovis was better than somewhere else, but you are welcome to come live a day in our shoes & then you would appreciate Clovis.

Spent a few years in the area and don't have a lot of positive things to say about it. I am glad that I won't have to go there again. If you like it there, that's fine but I saw a lot that was negative. If they could get some real industry there, rid the town of some folks that need to go and have the local community get involved so that the kids there have stuff to do so they aren't getting wrapped up in the negative like drugs and teen pregnancy, then that place COULD BE good. Just my two cents.

Nope, that was Clovis and Portales in a nutshell.
If I was a major businessman w/ big $$$'s and the local leaders weren't so blinded by ignorance, that area would be great for some factories to come in and get that place going. You're relatively close to I40, and you have the trains that come through there so you can move stuff by either truck or rail. Also, do some stuff for the kids there, keep them busy so you don't have them getting in trouble, who cares if the don't do anything w/ the local churches, it'd be better then having them go to the local prison chaplain when they are in the can...If you all want to justify why you all won't ever be successful in the Clovis/Portales area, you all can keep your heads in the sand and watch everyone suffer there.

I lived in clovis /portales area for 20 years all it did for us is tear our family apart.I watched as my children got involved with drugs and creeps,the corruption in that area is phenomonal.there is nothing to do for the kids.And the local big heads will never let there be anything for kids they make more money throwing them in jail and charging big fines.Parents pay foy their childrens stay in jail.your all stupid for staying .But when its your children.You'll be ready to get out

tim10, sorry for your troubles, sounds like you got out of there finally. Whatever, I was there for 2 1/2 years, I was glad to get out. There is nothing good about that area. I said that there was a LOT of potential there but as it stands now,
that place is a joke, rid that area of some of it's corrupt "leaders" get in some fresh blood, get some real industry there and watch that place prosper. AND FIND THINGS FOR THE CHILDREN/TEENS TO DO OTHER THAN GET HIGH AND KNOCKED UP!!! Otherwise you will not see any real growth there, that is a tragic situation

Don't blame a town for your lack of skills as a parent. It is up to the parent to keep the kids in line not the town.

Whatever, you are quite correct when you say that that the parents are the ones that need to ensure that the kids behave, BUT...when you have a lot of the issues that the Clovis/Portales area has w/
teenage drug use and teen pregnancy, then yes, the town needs to get involved. If you don't necessarily think that they are required to get involved, then you are incorrect in that as well.
Keep in mind if things get bad then they have to secure funding (at the local level...) for things such as Substance Rehab, Day care in the high schools, then at the state/federal gov't level, they have to provide things like medicaid, WIC, Welfare, etc...an expensive and vicious cycle. If the community can be forward thinking they can prevent things like this from becoming a major issue. Just my two cents.

Negative, Negative and more Negative!!!! What happened to the POSITIVE. Everyone has their own opinions but this one thread is way out there. What happened to the good things to hear about this place. I have been in worse places than this. I have lived in many places as a military spouse. We are about to retire here because it is so much more calmer than the big cities where we are from. Like I said before, everyone has their own opinion and needs to look at the positive. Life is what you make it.

To whatever: with all do respect, you can sit there and keep saying "Well you just described almost every place in America not just Clovis", but that doesn't solve the problem there. The local leadership needs to identify the problems and make efforts to solve them. Passing the buck is a chicken s--t solution, and it seems the local leadership there in the Clovis/Portales area does that in deuces; screw and/or blame the other guy and don't take any responsibility for their actions or lack therof. There are a lot of nice small towns to go to but Clovis or Portales isn't two of them.
