Jury Finds Raye Dawn Smith Guilty, Recommends 27 Years

Thank God that she will at least spend the next 23 years in a small cold cell thinking of what she did to Kelsey! I pray for the Brigg's family to stay strong. God & Kelsey are on your side!

i watched this thing on myspace and i wanna know what jail she is in and the guy michael lee porter who kicked kelsey what jail they are both in !!! that is so horrible when the mom didnt even care i hope she feels bad for ever and never gets out of jail !!

What was it that RD supposedly "did" to her daughter, since it was her HUSBAND who actually committed the murder? And why wasn't Porter charged, tried and convicted of either murder or at least manslaughter of his two-year-old stepdaughter? Seems rather strange, to say the least, that the person who committed the actual crime of killing Kelsey was not convicted of it.

And your "evidence" that "the mom didn't even care" is....what, exactly? You might also want to ask yourself why Porter wasn't charged and convicted of murder or manslaughter, since that is exactly what he did. If it isn't too much trouble to do more thinking, that is.

Wrongful convictions can and DO happen.

The DA could not have filed charges against Raye Dawn without an arrest affidavit. Did Kathie Briggs manipulate the OSBI into submitting an arrest warrant for Raye Dawn too? If Raye Dawn didn't do anything wrong then how did the OSBI have any evidence to issue an arrest warrant?

Another question, do you know how ridiculous you sound? Why would Kathie be mad at Raye Dawn for divorcing her son? Why would she be MAD that her son was finally free from an unstable, unhappy marriage? I think you need to come up with some better excuses because only stupid people are going to buy that crock of crap!

Thank God for this conviction! This mother needs to pay for her crime. She did not protect Kelsey when every sign of abuse was staring her in the face. She covered up for herself and she covered up for Mike. She had every reason to see that her baby was dying from the inside out. She had lost her spirit many months before she lost her life. Both Michael Porter and Raye Dawn Smith deserve to pay for Kelsey's life, with their own. They will get their punishment on earth but also when they die. That's justice!

Are you that delusional?? Really now. What lies are you referring to? What are they hiding? They don't think people are stupid, they give you the "REAL" facts in the case along with the supported documentation for you, well not you, to make an educated opinion of what happened. I will tell you who "deserves to pay", the person that murdered Kelsey.
We will all be judged by GOD and we will all get our punishment, so I dont think anyone but GOD has the divine right to judge someone.

Porter isn't asserting any innocence in his part of this crime. It has not been proven who actually killed this little girl. Porter is not trying to get out of prison as Raye is. THAT is why people talk about her and not him. He has accepted at least some responsibility in this and Raye has not. She is not innocent by any definition of the word.
And yes God knows who delievered the fatal blows and God will be the Judge and Jury on their judgement day and will pass his own sentence. Then there will be total and true complete justice for this little girl. Not until.

I wish he was sitting on death row, convicted of murdering this little girl. I'm afraid reasonable doubt would have been a factor.

I believe that if it weren't for the neglectful parenting of Raye Dawn that Mike Porter would have NEVER had the opportunity to kill Kelsey. Raye Dawn's mother admitted on the stand that "they was watching him" and if you are watching your husband because you suspect he may be hurting your daughter, you don't leave her alone with him period. I don't care if Kelsey was asleep or not, she should have taken her with her. She should have kicked Mike's sorry a$$ out long before that. She should have never even married him when the court specifically told her NOT to have him around Kelsey.

The person who murdered Kelsey is paying. I believe my post is saying that they will be judged by God, so I'm not really sure where you're going with this statement. If you are trying to say that I don't have a right to say that Mike and Raye should pay for Kelsey's life with their own, then I'm sorry but I disagree. The bible teaches and eye for an eye and this is why I believe in the death penalty. I would have like to see Mike get the death penalty and Raye, life in prison. That would have really been true justice.

And one more thing, both Mike and Raye's conviction/sentencing dates will not fit in the headline. Another reason is, I was present at Raye Dawn's trial when they jury found her guilty of enabling child abuse and handed her a 27 year sentence. I will never forget that day as long as I live July 18, 2007 will forever be in my memory for many different reasons. I felt joy and sadness at that moment. Despite what many may think, I was sad for Raye Dawn. I'm sad that she ruined her life and for what? I'm sad that it didn't have to be this way but, unfortunatly, she made it this way.

Both Porter and Smith are in prison for a very long time. By the time they get out, they will both be in their 50's and their lives will be pretty much over. They won't have jobs, savings, or families to go to for help. It's a sad situation when more than one family member is in prison, which is Smith's case. Her family knows what the inside of a prison cell looks like.
Little miss beauty queen is going to have to work in the clergy's office in prison for over 25 years. She is just doing that now to make herself look better. It's a shame that she didn't attend church when all this was happening to Kelsey. Of course, that was because she was still drinking and acting like herself, the poor pathetic mother. She even had numerous bad checks at liquor stores during the time after she got Kelsey back the last time in June. Is this a good mother? Can this be proved? Yes, it can. She was as good a mother as she could be. She was as good a mother as she was taught by her estranged mother. Like mother, like daughter. It's just too bad that Kelsey NEVER had the chance to be like anyone.
