I don't know who you are, but I will tell you who I am....
My name is Kay Adams, and I served on the Donalsonville City Council for 5 yrs. and all of that time, tried to get a New Fire dept. built, or the old one remodled. The condition of that building is reprehencable. It should have been condemed years ago. The Firemen we depend on to save lives, and risk theirs, are subjected to hazardous, poverty level living conditions. I invite you to spend the night there, breathing disel fumes, and then post your opinion. I was embaressed and ashamed when I saw the condition of the building, and after inspection , was told it was not structuraly sound enough for remodling. In my opinion,(whatever that is worth) The Fire dept. would be the FIRST place to spend tax payer money.

The city manager would be willing to donate part of his salary to a new fire department. I agree we need a new one.

I really enjoy your website. I do however have one suggestion for you. A "Contact Us" link would be wonderful. If a citizen of this county has a concern, maybe they could contact you....Just a thought.

For your information, there is SPLOST money that is already allocated for this project. You and I voted on this several years ago. You have the slightest clue what goes on in the fire service. The fire department has improved their training tremendously over the years. If you have read the Donalsonville News you would see where the ISO rating has been dropped. This would reduce your insurance premium here in the city and in the county as well. So before you go bad mouthing the department you need to get your fact straight. These guys lay there life on line on a regular basis to protect us and our property. They are in title to a decent place to stay while on duty. Our city and county need to get the chip off their shoulder work together get this project completed. I urge each and everyone to call your council member and commissioner to voice your opinion.

this is a perfect example of "why" people have got to start participating in the election process. if the city and county cannot and will not cooperate to do what is in the best interest of the citizens they serve, be it a jointly shared fire station, ems station, maintenance shop, or whatever, then they have a personal issue within themselves or either "their status quo group" that cannot and will not provide tax paying citizens the stewardship of funds and services they are entitled to.

people, wake up. things have changed and it is not business as usual anymore. take responsibility and reclaim your communities. if you do not want to actively participate or get involved with the individual issues, then at a minimum you can vote out the people that are hindering progress and service to you.

i agree firefighting is a dangerous job and i would not want to have to do it for a living. these men and women deserve facilities and equipment to get the job done and done right. if the fire station is in such a bad state of repairs, under whose watch did this event occur? hold them accountable. if it was an individual, then hold the ones that this person reports to accountable. the buck has got to stop somewhere. demand accountability......its your money thats funding alot of things that serve no real useful purpose.

Your teachers in grade school ought to be condemned for teaching you all those misspelled words! Go use like a dictionary or something before you make such a fool of yourself. If you had been in my class you would at least know how to spell the word "diesel".

For those of you againt the building of a new fire station for your firefghters to live and breath comfortable in what are you thinking those guys work hard. I have had the chance to train and with several of your guys. I would love to have several of them here. Also I have proof that over half the department are instructors .People of Donalsonville wake up you cant go to any other department where you have that many instructors big or small town and wow a class 4 fire rating thats the same as Atlanta. You go Donalsonville keep trying to kill your with diesel fumes mold and other cancer causing hazards oneday they will get you. Also the reason you dont have the fires that you did back 10 20 and 30 years ago is from a word called fire prevention .Who is in charge of that is on top of job . If yall dont want them send most of them our way we will take them

Let me get this straight you want to build a new fire house when money is drying up in the county(see your own articles), unemployment is at an all time high in the last 20 years, and farmers are facing the roughest times in last 20 years? Let's not forget the fact that you have just blasted the mayor's family, the city manager and other co-workers in city....That just fing smart!

I never could figure out why the Old GSP post was not converted for use by the fire department. It had several bedrooms, showers, bathrooms, kitchen, living area and a shed out back. With few modifications it could have house the fire trucks. And with the need for firemen and EMTs round the clock can't figure out why they couldn't share the same building. Just a thought and maybe there is a reason why they can't.

Money drying up? The county has a splost fund and the fire department is entitled to their part, which by the way is already set aside for the fire department! A new fire department was needed years ago!!! Lets just go ahead and mention that the County is about to spend over a million dollars in courthouse renovations!!!!!!!!!! Whoever you are, you dont have your facts straight! I have seen the fire department, have you? The city and the county can get sued over conditions that it is in! I just don't know why those guys up there havent called the department of labor yet!! Maybe they will and someone will have to do something!
