For your information people the quorum coutt & the county judge did try get the city of Brinkley to go along with them & just have one tax but NO THE MAYOR & THE COUNCIL wanted their own tax. They were asked to come to the quorum meeting & discuss the tax but they didn't even take the time to do that, the quorum didn't even vote to pass putting this on the ballot in their regular meeting in order to try to get the Mayor & council to talk about just having one tax, didn't work so they held a special meeting 2 days later to pass putting this on the Nov ballot.Get your facts straight before you start blaming the wrong people.

I know the Brinkley mayors as far back as Clay have always opposed a county wide tax. Years ago clay worked hard to get the county tax defeated then turned right around and successfully fought for a city tax. The county needs one for the reasons the quorum court pointed out worse than Brinkley needs the additional funds. The mayor and council need to learn to budget no more than the projected income to the city and stick with it. Why 8 police cars? Are there EVER that many officers on duty at once? Every time I drive by there's always a line of them parked outside city hall.

Before you decide this issue, please inform yourselves as to the true facts. If you vote against either one of these taxes, you will see a very dramatic decrease in the sevices we all depend on. In order to "cut" enough to balance the current budget for the City of Brinkley, we would lose over half the police officers we currently have. Do you really want the thieves to have that much more freedom here? Do you really want to have an all volunteer fire department, just think about that, and look at the real numbers before you vote on this issue. The City of Brinkley has been spending more than revenues brought in since the mid nineties, they have been dipping into their savings since then, not somehing new. Check the facts and figures, its all there as the auditors of the state have recoded it. Dont just take the word of anybody..look at the facts and think about what this will do to our city, win or loose. And anyoe who thiks Obama gets any of it is mislead.

First, yes any form of government has its waste, there are corners to be cut in every branch of business, government, or association. There are corners that can be cut at city hall and county government, but the fact is everything has gotten more and more expensive and taxes are needed in order to keep services uninterrupted and at their current level.
Granted, we don't have the best police department, however it is better than none. When you do anything there are going to be mistakes and waste, but do we really want our city services cut? Yes, the street department superintendent needs to be fired and the mayor takeover his role. The police chief needs to go too, and the department revamped from top to bottom. The mayor's salary cut in half and also the city councils, which I am told is already being looked at by the council.

THE QUORUM COURT TRIED TO BULLY THEIR WAY TO A TAX INCREASE AND THE MAYOR WANTED TO STUDY THE OPTIONS LONGER. THE MAYOR DID ATTEND THE MEETING BUT WAS "COLD-SHOULDERED" BY THE COURT. A VOTE WAS NOT NECESSARY AS EVERYONE HAS UNTIL THE END OF AUGUST TO DECIDE THIS IN ORDER TO PLACE IT ON THE BALLOT. MAYOR HANKINS ATTENDED THE MEETING OF THE QUORUM COURT AFTER HE AND THE BRINKLEY CITY COUNCIL DECIDED IT WAS THEIR DESIRE TO HAVE A 1 CENT COUNTYWIDE TAX, BUT HANKINS WAS SNUBBED BY THE QUORUM COURT. THOSE ARE THE FACTS, PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

Its an election year and when everybody is down they usually point fingers here, some are to blame and some are to be used for blame. Will it ever stop? Nah, too much fun in dragging down anyone who is a member of the wrong party. Heh, bad year to put a tax increase on the ballot. People only will agree to it when they see progress first.

Get rid of the full time fireman we have that does nothing. That's save's the city about $150,000. Stop the police dept. from filling their cars with gas every hour. Stop the street dept. employee's riding around all day and asign them to do something everyday. Stop the Mayor driving all around all day acting like a cop. PROBLEM SOLVED!! cut the firemen then what u gonna have to come save your ass your house your family when trouble arises idiot

nobody said anything about getting rid of the fireman. I said pay them by the fires they respond to. it's called volunteer fire dept. That's what the other volunteer fire departments do. Trying to help the city save money. Now if they do leave then their heart was not into it and just on for the money. i'm not against the fireman they do a great job. just trying to save money.

O My wrote: One of Brinkley's biggest problems now is to many tax, people that travel I-40 that once enjoyed stopping in Brinkley have told me that the Hamburger tax made them stop in Carlisle and Forrest City to eat. The same with staying over night. That is why our food stores have left, and no one wants to move to Brinkley, the school has gone to the blacks, the city has gone down to a ghost town and more tax is not the answer, cut back. What does the council do to earn more than $100.00 per month. No more than one police is needed in the day time and maybe two at night, with a back up at the police station.Get the city workers a Gator to work out of and get read of the riding around. Their are a lot of ways to cut back, one cop to direct traffic with all the hwy 70 wrecks and i 40 traffic? im not a cop but even i think thats silly.and you do need more at night cause thats when the thieves and alcoholics are out and about, and a gator? 1st off youre not saveing any gas their and if the city rolled up on a gator or a golf cart id run their ass off my property just because its so ridiculous

The issue I have is, the tax proposed by the county will only benefit the county and one city in the county, Fargo. So we will pay and collect a tax that Brinkley Citizens will not benefit from, does not sound very fair to me.
Oh yea, the south end of the county will support it because Monroe County does the majority of law enforcement down there. County funds are being used everyday to support the south county cities; purchased police cars for cities, update the 911 system on the south end, but not anywhere else???
How many Brinkley people you know working for the county??

It doesn't really matter what the county does, they have an illegal member sitting on the court and anything they've done since can be challenged; and it will..
