I've heard that raccoons are little terrors if you have sweet corn near maturity in the garden.
I've already had my pole beans, sweet potatoes, squash, and other edibles stripped clean by groundhogs, so now as a last resort, I've been forced to lay an entire box of carpet tack strips all around my veggies.
I'd like to see those pesky raccoons come within two feet of the corn - no I'm serious, I always wanted to see dancing raccoons.

They just was cleaning him off before they ate him! lol

I pull over and remove box turtles from hi-ways. It's not like they can run and I hate to see them killed. I used to take them home and release them on my land but they repaid me by eating tomatoes on my vines, so now I content my good samaratian genes with walking one a safe distance and sitting it down. Better anyway, since they are territorial and likely have a routine established where they were. Sometimes we humans "help" too much.

I do the same, we get the occasional box turtle in our back yard, in fact I spotted one yesterday by the pond under the hostas but I was saddened to see a tumor-like growth about the size of a dime protruding from one side of it's head, and causing it difficulty inserting head back into shell.

I'm happy they got him out, thats a bad way to be. Raccoons and Opossums are everywhere this year, definitely a population explosion. Maybe weather related as to better food source this year? Not sure but there is way more than normal,wild Turkey too.

No ma'am, they are the best turkey you will ever eat, no comparison to the store bought ones. I actually watched from my front porch as a momma turkey put it to the neighbors cat the other day for trying to stalk her babies, right in the middle of a dirt road, was a sight to behold. Thats why I don't have cats, that hunter/killer instinct they have can wreak havoc on the wildlife, one thing we don't see alot of here anymore are Pheasants, because of all the Feral cats, a momma pheasant won't stand and fight, she will try to draw the cat away from her babies, don't take the cat long to figure that little ploy out.

But then again I've never tasted Vulture so...maybe.

Probably a bit like eating a Swan, used to be a favourite of Robin Hood and the ole Sheriff of Nottingham in the Middle-Ages, but for those that have had that finger-licking experience, I understand it to be a bit stringy and tough.

Well boyz...I've eaten most all of it...except Swan. Geese, Pheasants (YUM), Squirrels, Rabbits, and COON! It's all good. Especially if you live in Central Illinois Corn Country. I don't anymore.

And when you have many mouths to feed...they are thankful for the good cooking that a Daddy can provide. I loved everyone of them and still do. Raising my last two. But we have the $$ now and I somehow just can't bring myself to shoot anymore. It puzzles me. I'm WEAK I guess. I feed'em now. Isn't that a bitch? We still eat Venison. The boys and wife like it and I cook it down with veggies and it tastes like Beef.

There is still a harvest out there in America and if needed, I would not hesitate.
