Have you been there? The food is as crappy as the Eureka Roy's Club. They promised to keep the current staff, then offered the cook minimum wage - cleaned house and hired a wacko bartender who is kicking long time supporters out of the bar for life.....sounds like they are their own worst enemy. When starting a business you need to adapt to your community - not the community to you. You of all people should know that!

Well, there must have been a reason Parloti's was sold. Were they not making it? Bad management? Prices too high? Or just time to move on?

In any case, be grateful you don't have another ghost town building.

As far as the comment, though, "Things have changed and not for the worst. Change is good," uh, well, maybe not changed for the worst, but "change is good?"

Let's just say change sometimes can be good, but if one looks at the "Change We Need" mantra that was drummed into our heads in '08 and compares it to the "change we're getting," THAT CHANGE is NOT GOOD!

This is what happens when hick towns like ours try to have a 'good fellas' feud. OMG! So...now I am wondering if the new owners will fufill the booking rights like the previous father/son did, or if this has passed to the new owners as a loss of 'business' for 'the family'. Perhaps 'family' interests have migrated a bit to the south? hmmmm

Hey lets trash the previous owner and bring up some moral issue you have with him. You speak of booking rights, how do you know of this? Did you loose a bet to this individual and still have harsh feelings. Everyone is gambling get over it. Find a new moral issue to take a stand on. I would sure like to get my hands on that piece of the pie. Your a Looser

'Really'- Don't waste your time with Sweede. He just wants to pick a fight and seems to think he is an authority on everything. He is not interested in dialogue or debate just insults and mean spiritidness. The best thing to do is just ignore the spew and don't respond to his garbage.

Joe and Marie Parlato were the original owners. Marie grew the herbs for many of the menu items, most notably the meat sauce and lima beans. When Joe passed away his son took over the business. A downfall of many bartenders is becoming your best customer. I am sure Marie, now in her 90's, finds this very difficult to bear, losing the business that she and Joe owned since the 50's.
It's very sad that Roy's didn't follow through with keeping the long time staff and menu. I have been to Roy's in Eureka several times and the food was horrible. If you loved Parlato's ravioli, I found them at Ray's in Eureka. They are in the freezer case and the brand is Homestead. I didn't care for Homestead's meat sauce since my own homemade sauce is almost as good as Parlato's was.
Who is the new Bartender? It sounds like he isn't a good fit for the long time customers. In a small town like Fortuna, when you p*i*s*s off the wrong person, you will lose MANY others once the word spreads like wildfire!

This reminds me of the hillarity of Fortuna and its "friendly" populations' reaction to a Auto shop of some sort. I do not recall speciffically what kind of shop it was going to be but it was going to have the word "Mexico" or some derivative or synonym.
There was a huge backlash from the village folk. However, they all forgot, overlooked, or were just too damn ignorant to realize that Fortuna is, in fact, a Spanish word!
Change in Fortuna might not be a bad thing.

"... I am sure Marie, now in her 90's, finds this very difficult to bear, losing the business that she and Joe owned since the 50's..."

Hey, the guy who bought Parloto's is 89. He was personally moving stoves etc. around for cleaning when the City Inspector came in and said he needed a permit to clean. Seems the "friendly city" would just as soon see the place dark. As for Roy's - I've been eating there for 50 years or so... Always a treat!

As an east coaster born and raised close to NYC I know good Italian food. I have never eaten at Parloto's...my loss, but I have eaten at Roy's and have never been disappointed. Never. My nose may not be bent, but I know good Italian food! Maybe the community should give them a chance.

I am happy to hear that there is still an Italian restaurant in Fortuna. I don't give a hoot who owns it - it's not a club, it's a place to get food. Calm down!

I have no problem with gambling, and see this not as a moral issue. I have enjoyed many dinners there, and gabbing with the 'fam' both at the restaurant and at the Fair. Yah, I lost some, but won some too--it all comes out in the wash--no worries. Not trashing Joe or Jr., just fond memories, everybody has found their own way to make a living up here. I was simply being sarcastic--unfortunately it doesn't come off too good in text. Guess if you don't know the history you didn't get it, oh well.

Actually I am interested in dialog and debate, but you just repeated the same thing when I asked you to support your claims.

I'm certainly not an expert or authority on everything, only a couple things. You might want to check into your own brand of insults--still calling others for your own actions, responsibility pal. I admit that I insulted you, but it was only after your insults--I guess I didn't understand the double standard you operate under. My bad.

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Pisces

This is another good day to be tactful, and if anything you'll be even more successful than you were yesterday. This is not to be sneezed at, so seize the opportunity to talk to people who can sometimes be very touchy or who need to be handled with kid gloves. If you meet someone who's older or more influential than you, you'll be a big hit with them.
