Deer will die of being hungry, if there are too many of them. Connecticut Sam and I believe that people should only kill the kind of animals that people eat.

With the number of cases of Lyme Disease we already have, if we don't eliminate them, there will be an even bigger increase of people getting bitten by deer ticks. They are the biggest carriers of the tick that produces Lyme. Go up on the Merritt or Rt. 8 any day of the week and you will see them lying on the side of the road because they get hit by cars. The risk of hitting them is also increasing and people are getting hurt. For the sake of human health, They need to decrease the deer population and this is the only way. And yes, some people do eat deer meat.

I live in Fairfield and I constantly have deer on my property. I also have family members with lyme disease. Deer cause personal property destruction and spread disease. Their population needs to be responsibly controlled because they are a health hazard. Are deer pretty, yes. Animal lovers ask yourself this - If the problem were rats, would we even be having this conversation?

Fairfield is just too over-developed and populated to allow hunting. And deer ticks feed on all mammals, so why not kill or outlaw all dogs/cats/rodents etc.? Killing a few deer will not end the spread of Lyme Disease. I think if people don't want to be bothered by wildlife they should move to a city and stop their complaining.

Animal lovers ask yourself this - If the problem were rats, would we even be having this conversation? Deer do not cause lyme disease. Deer do not get it or carry it. Black-legged tick can choose from 40 hosts. other animals, carries the disease. Songbirds, mice, small mammals, dogs, cats and humans - do you want to kill them all too? I also have family members with Lyme disease and friensd. Not one of those people blames deer. Experts agree the way to guard against lyme disease is to do body checks. Property destruction?? Plant different plants and get over it. Car deer collisions? Not nearly as devastating as the drunk drivers on the road and irresponsible drivers causing fatal accidents on I 95. Give me a break! People, educate yourselves instead of blindly following others.

That is simply wrong. For the sake of human health, educate yourself on how to guard against Lyme disease. Experts agree that reducing deer will not show a decrease in Lyme. Where are your numbers proving that there is an increased risk of hitting them? That is simply not true!

My cousin got Lyme disease from a tick bite a few years back and she still suffers some painful symptoms from it. The infectious disease specialist she saw referred to it as deer tick, also known as oxides tick. Granted, other animals carry ticks as well, but deer are the best known carriers.

So, now I am gonna sound like some redneck, but I cannot even understand how this is an issue? Growing up in the south (and yes I am college educated and still have all my teeth) we hunted with my dad for deer. We used the meat in stews and on kabobs, etc... Deer are all over the place here. We moved here and have had talks about it since we moved about the number of dead deer on the side of the road. I am all for protecting endangered species or batteling animal abuse, but I am not in support of folks thinning the herds of deer so they can drive safer on the roads.
