Actually, the population-growth rate in the Columbus area has remained fairly steady since 2000, averaging 1.17 percent per year.

Is that the Columbus metro area, or within the city limits? Need to pack to go into any side of town. North, South, East, West - they all suck. And you can't get downtown without going through them without a parachute. And they wonder why downtown is dead? Condolences to the family - I hope this was a "wrong place, wrong time" rather than being involved in some illicit activity.

It has grown OUTSIDE of the CPS schol zone. In the CPS district it is Detroit the second!

Where is the outrage over crime in Columbus? The homicide rate is reported like football scores on the nightly local news. It's as if it does not bother anyone. Where's Coleman, City Council or the police chief? Where's the public demanding that those in charge step up to the plate? When Columbus is rank the 7th most dangerous city in the nation for cities of 500,000 or more (Morgan Quitno ranking among 32 cities of comparable size), this shows there is a problem to contend with. Coleman
and crew ignoring the situation does nothing to solve the problem. It's time to change the leadership in Columbus people, because this mayor and City Council have no desire to reduce crime in Columbus, and believe me crime does affect the economic climate and well-being of the city.

Where is the outrage? Just go kill a cat like that one stupid f'er did down in Hocking County and watch all of the outrage. Man murdered = 7 replies, cat killed = 500+ replies.

Good point. I guess it's all about priorities. Precisely my point why we need new leadership across the board in Columbus.

It's not the population number - it's the make-up of the population as families are leaving, and being replaced with less stable and financially secure people.

In short, taxpayers and people who stabilize neighborhoods are leaving, and being replaced by immigrants, young people, etc.

Not the Ohio I remember growing up in. There were maybe 4 or 5 murders in a year in Columbus. Now it sounds as bad or worse than the places where one would expect this kind of thing. I used to play music at the Tamarack Inn in the 70's. It was a great place to work then, and a great part of town. Sorry to see all that's gone.

As a resident on the North end, all I can say is that all the trash moved up here from Linden once the city made a deal with both Wexner to create Easton and when Linden voted itself dry in order to get city tax breaks and development money.

The second factor to this was the BROKEN deal over letting Northland Mall close. Once there was no real "anchor" for major business' in the Morse Rd corridor all the crap business's moved in..hell there are 2 pawn shops can across the street from each other and another a block away.....Which are nothing short of legalized fencers for stolen property.

Its a shame that the city is spending so much on the Morse Rd area when the problem is deeper than the "cosmetic" facelift its getting. I am with the other poster that the city needs to crack down on the apartments that reside in that area with tough zone enforcements and fines to the owners of the properties in order to clean them up.

well as for that if the court would put a law in columbus the when a drug dealer gets picked up for drugs sales that they get 5 years in prison no matter what this might stop they could start at cleveland and belcher and get at least 5 a day for a month they dont even care i have saw the police drive by and watch a drug deal and keep on traveling by and watch them and dont have a care in the world now that would help alot on the killings and addicts in this world thats waht i have to say

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Libra

Instead of retreating into your own little world, get out there and spread some love and joy to all those around you. Be sure to pay close attention to the things that make others truly happy - often it can be the simplest of things. Libra is the most sociable sign in the Zodiac and you'll be in your element at the moment. You don't need to go overboard, though, and pick up everyone else's tab!
