This is a great idea...but, why should the "cops" need to be undercover...Let the passengers know there is an officer on board with a trained dog...seems to me that would deter alot more criminal related activity.

years ago I worked for COTA. good to see the security measure in force and COTA has grown up. Back in my day, a COTA driver on the Morse Road route shot a kid named Lamont Martin. The COTA driver had a 22 cal in his carry bag. This was on the line line that served Northland Mall. and Mr Simonetta was the director. Well anyway, the driver was taken off of driving and once the fan fanre died down, he retired as a garage mechanic for COTA. let the dogs and the cops work and the drivers drive. expand transit and take ur chances

I like the idea of the drug and bomb sniffing dogs. I ride COTA to get back and forth to work and have seen a drug deal on the bus right in plain view.

The K9s they are using are from the Columbus Airport not CPD. I saw them on Monday. they have Uniform cops from CPD and Uniform cops from the airport. I didn't know that airport cops have jurisdiction in the entire county. This is good info to have.

Just another opportunity for the police to justify profiling and harassing African Americans using the public transit system for the purpose of "extra security" using police dogs. This is without a doubt another case of systematic racism.

COME ON...I dont think the dogs care if your black, white or purple. If you have something on you, the dogs will find it regardless what race you are.... Give me a break

Racism.....It is rude, ungrateful and plain hateful that someone, who is appearing as informed and educated, makes statements of racism and hate... You do not know the individual officers who put their lives on the line...FOR STRANGERS... Average pay considering the "ultimate sacrifice." It is not racism when knowledgeable, educated, excellent trained and resourceful officers patrol the streets, schools, transit system and other events around the city to deter, stop and apprehend criminals.... Racism is an easy claim to make for someone is knows nothing more than hate.
When you make statements about a large group or even more than one person, you are claiming that CPD is a bunch of racist cops... It would be like saying all white people are Nazi's or all hispanics cant speak english. Or all black people are criminals... You can go on and on, but the more you say the more ignorant you sound.
Be thankful you live in a city with one of the most highly trained, educated, equipped
and professional police departments in the WORLD.

Funny how loosely the word "racism" is hatred. Discrimination is a violation of rights... It is not illegal to hate someone in the country... Unfortunately, people can project their hatred to others under protection of our constitution. However, you cannot be discriminated against. BIG difference.
This program appears to be a great opportunity for the police department and citizens to interact, inform and assist each other to stop crime occurring on the transit property.

Keep up the good work CPD!

I find it pretty impressive that the airport cops have the same or more arrest powers then a Deputy Sheriff. The airport cop I talked to said that they have arrest powers in all of Franklin and Pickaway Counties.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Libra

Someone is shooting from the hip today, making them irascible and all too liable to fly off the handle. Be very wary about provoking them into further outbursts, particularly where the vexed topics of money and sex are concerned. If you're trying to sort out a financial problem you will also be prone to losing your rag and banging your fist on the table. But will that help?
