I remember the Jack In The Box on the corner of Washington and Suffolk Avenues but I don't think it's there anymore. I also recall the 5 & 10 down the road. I used to buy little toys there when I was a boy. I also worked at Grants as a short order cook around 1972... perhaps it was me that made that terrible liver. if ur wondering the Jack in the Box is now a white castle.

I was not a big fan of the show so I really didn't think anything of it. Like YOU SAY there's good and bad in every race. Back in the old days,we had poor Irish and Italians immigrants from Brooklyn. Now we have hispanics from Central and South America.God will continue to bless America for her generosity toward us.

My family moved to Brentwood in 1959. I started in 7th grade at south jr high, 9th grade in the new at the time, North jr high. Worked in Hill's on Washington Ave., until it burnt down which was around 1963. I have some very fond and great and not such great memories. But sometimes I wish I could back.

WE lived in Brentwood from 1959 to 1973.Yes, there are many fond memories. I remember summer nights when we would congregate on someones stoop or patio and enjoy a glass of ice tea or a cup of coffee with cake. The kids would run around the neighborhood playing games until it was time for bed.Even the big winter snowstorms didn't hold us back. We would gather in someones house for coffee while the kids played in the " finished basement".We shopped in Hills supermarket, bought pizza from Tony's on Clark street. We still go to Tony's....we didn't go far.We now live in Hauppauge,Smithtown. My children started school in North Elementary and graduated Hauppauge High.Does anyone remember the five and dime on Suffolk ave. in the A&P shopping center? Whatever one needed....they had it.Grants was a great store also.We did make use of the Brentwood theater. We were able to drop the kid off and pick them up after the show with no worry at all.We stopped going when the theater was patrolled by security guards with dogs.

A certain sign of the beginning of the end for Brentwood. If you had a crystal ball it would have shown you more was to come, a typical full fledged minority community where movie theaters, bowling alleys and a regional supermarket were morphed into an abandoned building, a welfare clinic and a niche supermarket. Just about the only good thing left about Brentwood are the distant memories.

's so sad. Leave Long Island? Are you kidding. This is the best place in the country. So Brentwood has gone downhill....big deal.Brentwood does not define Long Island.Of course if you can't afford it, its best that you leave.
