They can freaking work! as you know ssdi and ssi are different. the people that get these "intitlements" must prove they are still disabled with doctors reports, hospital visits, what kinds of meds your taking etc. social security reviews you to see if your still disabled. ssi=is a supplement to you for being poor. yes you can collect while recieving both.

There needs to be another system for it. I don't want to pay into a system designed to augment my retirement if a portion of the money goes to those that didn't earn it. fitness-guru wrote: <quoted text>your being unrealistic dog. lets use you for an example, your working, tomorrow you go blind. really do you really want to cut out ssdi ? yes i agree some folks are skating for sure. same as welfare and other programs. but be real man.

The thing that pisses me off the most is that some people use it because they ran out of options. This is going to sound cruel, but it's a fact. For instance, if an engineer, accountant, IT wizard has an arm fall off, he can continue working as whatever it was he was before, but if a ditch digger has the same problem, he is going to be forced to go on disability dipping into my funds. I'm 58 years old and if all goes well, I will be retiring in 4 years, but part of it hinges on the social security boost I will get a few years after that. I'll be really pissed if it's gone because a good portion of it went to support people who just ran out of options. That's not what the system was invented for.

The doctors will also exaggerate your claim to get paid. 8 years or so ago when I was unemployed and taking medication for ADD my doctor tried to get me on social security. Even told me she'd fix up my application to make it look worse than it was. I ended up telling her no, that my unemployment was temporary. I got the stink eye because of it, and she sent in a request of doctor change. So I left. I go to a PRIVATE doctor now. And don't take medications. And I've been employed for 8 years straight by the same company. It's above and beyond ABUSED.

Since our own government has shown it can't be responsible with our funds by misappropriating them, how is them being in control over it any better? <quoted text> And most seem to work for the Government. <quoted text> I have NO PROBLEMS with helping those that CANNOT help themselves. BTW I know a guy that is BLIND from Glaucoma that works at Taco Bell. He's too proud to receive a check. How is he ever getting by? <quoted text> No one is saying "Screw them" I am saying it needs to be FIXED. And doing MORE OF THE SAME isn't fixing it. <quoted text> Is that why France is having problems sustaining it's own level of healthcare? That Europe as a whole is a mess? <quoted text> Who's advocating that? Fixed? You bet. I'm all for fixing a broken system. I understand your friend better than you think. I have suffered from a chronic illness for 12 yrs and it is progressive. Now some days the simplest things have become a big deal. To receive the benefits I am entitled to and have paid into for yrs I will have to fight. And I don't want to fight for it. Thankfully Obamas plan will insure that insurance companies will not be able to exclude me for "a preexisting condition."

A local woman with 4 kids gets a check for herself and each kid gets a check. This woman "coached" her kids on how to act while in school and the kids were given checks based no only on ADD/ADHD but low IQs. Now these kids are older and of course didn't learn anything in school because of moms coaching. It really pisses me off on many levels. Milking the system when so many others really need it and what about the kids? Thanks to mom...they have no future. Except to be a drain on an over strained system.

See, we are on the same wave-length here. I think if all the cheaters, and fakers and questionable cases would disappear, we'd have money to support those that DO need it. I think the recent act of certain states requiring random drug tests for people who get money from Tax payers is a good idea. While I am NOT for the gov telling us what we can do with our bodies, when you get a check from the gov, they are your employer. And they have a right to drug test if it thinks it's effecting their bottom line. Lots of people trading in food stamp credits for drugs too.

What I a saying is, I couldn't care less if you want to stick needles in your testicles and shoot heroin. As long as you do it on your own dime. And if you need detox, or you O/D? That will be on your own dime too.

Yep. There has to be another avenue for those people. If SS had been used as it was inteneded, we wouldn't be having these problems at all right now. There were more than a few on the Welch Topix who were admittedly on a "disability" who sat around complaining about a socialist society. And the sad part was, the dumb asses didn't even see the problem with that. These was an idiot who got high sniffing glue back in the 70's and jumped in some shallow water and messed himself up. He tried (and failed miserably) to be a cop, then he went on a disability and has been abusing the system ever since--all the while talking about how much he hates socialism. Good God! arctic wrote: <quoted text> You are damn right there. A local woman with 4 kids gets a check for herself and each kid gets a check. That will be on your own dime too. Sure. I had this huge argument with a group of Aussies and Europeans about my views on mandatory sterilization. It is my opinion if a woman has a "crack baby" or any drug addicted baby she should be sterilized. I've just seen too many of these babies and the kids they grow up to be. And some of these local women are having 3 or more babies in this horrible condition. My "mates" were totally against my idea. They sited all the problems that cause ppl to be drug addicted. And also the womans rights....... We had to agree to disagree on this topic. I know it is a form of gov. control but I am thinking more about the rights of these children. The ones that survive that is.

There was a good example of that here in Houston a few months back. A woman that worked at a strip club just had her 3rd baby taken away from her. She was going off for hours on end and leaving the baby alone. Seriously. If that's not an argument for mandatory sterilization, I've never seen one. Now, each of those kids (and no reason to assume those will be her last) are going to have to be taken care of by the state until they can be adopted. The last one had some sort of syndrome that was no doubt brought on because this dipshyt couldn't control herself during pregnancy. arctic wrote: <quoted text> Sure.
