I lived there in the 70's and it was a place you felt safe even late at night. Grabbing a beer at the Pitcher House, going to IHOP to eat a late dinner or early breakfast. It's sad to see the city losing good solid stores because of their need to yuppify. Either/Or was disgusting... cat's running around & books smelled & stained like cat urine.

Another one bites the dust... How is this front page news? Probably another bar will open up there. The city of Hermosa is basically one big bar and this store closing appears to be what the "people" of Hermosa desire...

Children born of the tattooed people, seeing their mothers, fathers and/or grandparents with all of those tattoos will rebel. They will not want to taint their bodies with that. We will be reading of the beloved tattoo parlors closing for lack of business. The only constant that will remain, and rightfully so, is the surf and the surfers. For we are the beneficaries of a free gift of nature, that dosent taint the earth but is a part of the natural order of the earth. We do not exploit but are in rhythm with the ocean, enjoying our gift.

The only way Hermosa Beach will ever be turned into Manhattan Beach is when we annex it. Not that far away either the way HB is going. It would be best thing that ever happend to it. xislanda79 wrote: Unfortunate to see HB turned into MB but it was fun while it lasted. Cannot turn back the clock and cannot mfg anymore beach towns.

HB Guy: Yeah. Right. Most surfers are d*cks, and the ones who aren't are too stoned to care. Pretending to be at one with nature, and ready at a moment's notice to beat up the next person who *dares* to surf at *their* beach. It's hilarious that you would point to surfers as paragons of society.

When Sea World left., it was the beginning of the fall... the entire area is redefining itself as a pitiful bunch of sad sacks. The new is not new., just lost is a fog.

Rusty and I always enjoyed Re Style. The way my sister loved to shop, she was probably a big part of your early success. The clothes took on a life of their own, intertwining themselves with the stories and the times. Good luck to Danielle and Rodge, both you and the store will be missed here in Hermosa.

I bought my first pair of Doc’s at Re:Style in the early 80’s. Once, when I bought a poster of Sid Vicious and it happened that the very last one he had was hung up on a door, Rodge lamented that they probably couldn’t get that poster again. He said it was “the end of an era.”(I still have that poster!) Now, with the closing of Re:Style, it’s REALLY the end of an era. Sad.

I'm 68, and those were very good times. I lived here all my life and can't think of a better place to live. All the best. Squeezed Citizen wrote: <quoted text> Wow! You go back a long way. I remember back in the early 80's there was a girl named Alex who worked at Re- Style. She was the first girl I'd seen who had all the Rock and Roll type of tattoo's all over her and the piercings too. She really was ahead of her time. But when she is in her 80's the tats will probably scare the staff at the nursing home.

I'm saddened to hear of the closing. Some of my favorite clothing was purchased there and I always enjoyed chatting with the owners. Thanks for the excellent reporting.

Love seeing all these people complain because Hermosa doesn't have the same "charm" it once did. Yeah, what a bummer not having runaways, punk kids and other kinds of dirtbags hanging all over the pier area causing problems. Since the punk wanna-bes are mostly the ones complaining, if you were able to own property in Hermosa, you would appreciate the values going up as the city gets cleaned up. Instead, because you rent, you want the place to remain a party. Sorry tough guys, you have to grow up sometime. And living the mellow, I just want to be one with the ocean life doesn't get it done.

If you are talkin to me, I'll have you know that I am a 30+ year Hermosa homeowner, have raised two children in town and we have always lived a "one with the ocean life". Hermosa was a better sleepier surf town in earlier years, but I am not complaining. My wife and I love it here in Hermosa and welcome progress cleaning up the city. The bar scene is somewhat excessive but what the hay, their just having fun down there as I did in earlier years. Our fine police keep it comtroled. Most people who complain about our town do not live here. You most likely do not either. Tomorrow will be another fun surf day, small combo swells gracing our shores. I'll be on it, in my town living the "one with the ocean life".

Laughable: HB Guy is seemingly too self-involved to see the problem. Most surfers are. Just read this one's posts! All they care about is the next swell for their swollen ego, no matter how much vomit they have to step over in the street to get to the beach. After all, his fine police force will keep him safe in his SoCal bubble!

I lived in Hermosa Beach for 20 years, through the '70s and '80s. It was a fun town, easy and laid-back, plenty of places to walk to and things to do. It seemed to me the place lost its character when they "upgraded" lower Pier Avenue to a haven for the sort of self-absorbed trendoids who are willing to stand in line for an hour to get into a bar where, they hope, someone will notice their expensive clothing. But, you can't turn back time, so I left the town and moved on with fond memories and no regrets.
