When do sign ups start for new players. I haven't seen anyone at Stater Brothers, Behringer or Kling Center this year and we skipped on Football this year. We haven't seen or heard ablout soccer yet. No school flyers either.

Registration has been at Benton Middle School and Albertsons the past 3 weeks. There is a late registration date on June 5th from 9-noon at Benton Middle School (on the upper field). The new player rating day is also June 5th at Benton. Check the website for more information on times.
There was a mix-up this year on getting information to the schools, flyers should be going out this week. Registration dates and information has been available on the league website the past few months. LMSA's website is www.lamiradasoccer.org |

So this year's board dropped the ball.
Now everyone who didn't have time to check the web site regularly, or who doesn't have a friend on the board will have to pay the late fee of $20.(Assuming the notice on the web site is enforced on everyone) Come on LMSA board the last 2 years have been great. The extra effort given by all the board members in the past is what made the LMSA experience second to none. let's not start getting too complacent. And don't get defensive either. With 2 years at running the program this type of mistake should not have happened. |

I agree with LM parent. Why charge a late fee when the board dropped the ball regarding dispensing information. In addition, many, many kids were involved in spring soccer and had away games during the time of the registration. It was very difficult to even make the times posted for registering. now that spring season is over and flyers are to the schools why dont you extend the registration without the late fee for a week?

Hopefully LMSA can improve on its numbers from last year. We still need to get those players that went to AYSO La Habra, WAYS and Fullerton back to the LM program. With only 2 years in LMSA still needs to market the league the same as it did year one. It starts with the first year players as you build loyalty to the program. Kling Center, Behringer, Los Coyotes are locations for signups during baseball and softball season. It worked the first year. At least have the leagues pass out the info to their team moms and return the favor next season. Not have store sign ups at Staters and none on Saturdays at Albertsons was a mistake. Next year will be different I hope.

I think LMSA's #s were great last season.
About 1,100. The last time there were that many LM kids playing soccer in our city was about 10 years ago during the Klunder years. That was quality leadership from the top down. Then a series of bad Regional Commissioners destroyed everything after Jack left. This LMSA board has several new members. Hopefully they will not lower the quality that we have come to exspect. Let's all hope this first snafu is the exception and not the rule |

Decisions are made at the top, Whatever the reason behind this year can not be pushed on new members but experienced ones regarding registration. The key positions have been with the board since the first year, so there is no reason to look beyond the top and returning members. Hopefully the new members will stand up and challenge going forward to better the league as they look out for what is best for the parents and players.

Let's hope that volunteer burnout doesn't affect the returning board members.
And that they don't fall short on the quality services they have provided the last two years. As I said let's hope this snafu is the exception and not the new rule |

I think some of you are being way to harsh on the LMSA board members. It has been on the web-site for the past two months about registration. They shouldn't have to hold your hand and wait for you.
My only concern is about the signature program. I think they have chosen the wrong person to be in charge of that. From what I have heard he doesn't sound like he has much experience, and I find it odd he had children playing outside of LMSA and competing against LMSA. And I am worried that most of the coaches listed for signature are not going to make a difference on improving my kids and other kids ability. They seem to be just dads who have coached All-stars and nothing higher, no club or High School. But other than that I think LMSA is still on the upswing and I am happy to have my two kids signed up and ready to take the field. Now let's play. |

Judged: 1 Not all obviously but if it hurts one then that is too many in my book. It is good that the LMSA board knows that people that care are paying attention to what they do. Oversight is a good think. Let's just wait and see whatelse they will change from a system that has. In my humble opinion, worked fantastic for the last 2 years. The Signature program will be the first test, the man selected to run it has big issues (see other LMSA blog). And how will it affect the Rec program, team #s, coach quality etc. I don't worry about how well the Signature teams will do, our LM kids can compete at any level, check out how well our LMHS Boys & Girls Varsity soccer teams have done. But my point is how much will the Rec program suffer with the draining of players and coaches to a small select group of teams. And how will this 2 class system affect the kids? These questions will not be answered till the season begins. All we can do is wait and see |

The Director of Signatures main purpose is to be the contact between Cal South and LMSA. He should not be trying to control the whole program. If this is allowed then the program will fail. At this time he does not have influence over players selected as this is the coaches choice. Only the coach of the team has the understanding of the players trying out will fit into his system. Many parents think their kids are forwards only they won't play any other positions. Again as long as the board can pull the reins in on this position then it should be fine down the road.
The signature program at Cal South is designed to be a parent coach system to keep costs down. No paid trainers which pushes cost up over $1000.00 a year at club programs. Signature offers the potential to select your coach rather than through the luck of the draw for the Rec program. If the coach selected does not fit for you then save your money and play in the regualar program. You may be better off playing complete games at numerous positions rather than being a sub or stuck in one spot on a signature team. Each parent will need have to decide on their own. The only way for LM players to take the jump to club is to leave the city as many already have. Juventus is the only one that allows a coach to bring a complete team in and maintain control so that the cost are simular to Signature. Then again this is a parent coached club team and some do very well. All others require you to use their trainers and coaches and pay for them. Again you must decide how your child fits. Don't just look at their pracitce skills but with their competitive drive. This is more important than their basic skills. Skills can be learned by anyone but drive is in the makeup of the child. |

You mentioned it was on the web site. New players do not know anything about the web site. Emails were sent to returning players but with basic turnover you need to market every year. LM doesn't allow banners like surrounding cities so we must be a little more creative. Don't be Arrogant to think people should be begging to play in your league as your "hold your hand and wait for you" comment comes accross. Marketing the program is not begging for kids to play.

Judged: 1 We will see how well he follows the job discription when it comes to getting his daughter on the Signature team |

Sometimes you try to ignore people like that and hope the board see them for what they really are. If he reads these posts he will not come back. If he knew the head coach is trying to recruit the forwards from LM then he might not stay as they move to Juventus. Either way he looks bad and he put himself into that situation without anyone else helping. I don't like to take a position on the child as they are not the issue and it is sad when the parent puts the child in a tough position as they try to relive their glory days through the child. She is a good player and very nice girl and I hope he does what is best for her.

My daughter played in the championship game on Sunday against the Whittier U10 girls team called Cobras. We had a good game and our team came back from a 2 to 0 deficit to tie and then win the game in Penalty Kicks. It was a great game and both teams played really well.
I was really dissapointed to see that one of the coaches on the Whittier team did not come and congratulate the coaches from our team and our girls. Come to find out that he is and LMSA board member and runs the signature program. I feel this was an insult both to our coaches and the girls that he says he represents. Sorry to say but what a "sore loser". I hope this is not what the board is all about. Also, I feel that its a conflict of interest to have a board member that runs the LMSA signature league and has his daughter playing in Whittier. |

Judged: 1 June 5th sign-ups Great job LMSA board you listened and corrected your mistake. Now that's the board we all remember and love, way to go |

Anyone know how many are signed up this year after this weekends final sign up day. With Signature being added to the program I heard that the Pres. was shooting for 1300 participants to keep team levels the same as last year.

I think that might be stretch. But I am curious to see how the numbers are after two full seasons.

Actually 2 of his 3 kids will be playing for LMSA this year. His 3rd kid is playing club and will not be playing against La Mirada Sig. Get your facts straight. |

It is over. Let it go. Move on.
