Electricity demand tends to increase as a heat wave continues, and ISO New England projects demand to peak Thursday afternoon around 4 p.m. at 26,300 megawatts. Friday's peak is expected to be lower, at 23,970.
To put those numbers into context, Blomberg said, the record peak was 28,130 megawatts on Aug. 2, 2006. |

"We project sufficient capacity, but if electricity supply dips or demand spikes, we have we tested procedures to bring the system into balance," Blomberg said. "Certain companies have agreed to curtail electricity usage, if we call on them."
