Opinion: An optimist's journey toward dropping the 'D-bomb'

Editor's note: Stephanie Gallman, a CNN assignment editor, was diagnosed with depression last year despite being a frequent exerciser, a fairly healthy eater and an avid fan of Hula-Hoops.

CNN)-- In August, after several months of seeing a therapist and a psychiatrist, I was diagnosed with depression.

The news came as a shock....

I think some depression emanates from a bad childhood training script, ideology, parental or society worldview that the child catches, parental outlook or philosophy, maybe oppositional script or worldview...then the mental programming doesn't comport to reality.

So you lead a life of compromising, playing the game, a life of half truths....working like a dog to get the good life and being somebody you are not, playing a role and being a full time actor or actress...then you find your life shallow or fulfilling. You might become rich or poor...but still be unfulfilled.

I will give you repetitive behavior leads to building strong neuropathways...

It gets you thinking about do you want to build positive or negative nueropathways...do you want to be somebody you are not or learn to be widely adaptive and happy no matter what life outcome?

So you can't overcome depression until you rewire by positive behavior and thinking, into healthy neuropathways pathways and you learn to tamp down the maladaptive bad neuropathways...

Right, our brains are amazingly plastic and amazing plasticity.

Or you can make the pharmacology industry corporations widely wealthy beyond their wildest imagination...

There is alway a option of dying crazy or leading a life of disconnection...

Or a life of booze and legal and illegal drug, and food, sex, spills and thrills, a assortment of creative addictions....and we are self medicating ourselves to a disgraceful level.

So it is a arrant script created by your family, parents and society, or a script a clean slate child had to come up on his own because of parental and societal abandonment.
