nice to heard the judge didn't use his position to get out of a ticket. if this is the way it went down, i think the trooper was way out of line. let's all remember, there are two sides to every store.

If what I heard was true, it is another instance of abuse of authority by the Louisiana State Police. I'll promise you, it's not the first. I hope the judge gets his justice for himself and all the other people who have been wronged!

I know this Judge very well. He is a kind thoughtful man that supports the constitution. He would never use his position to get out of a ticket. He is calm and level headed. He would never disrespect an officer. He would not escalate a situation. The story is incorrect, Judge Sam's did offer to present the trooper His commission I.D. card, the Trooper wanted the Badge. The Judge thought it was not wise to flash a badge. The Trooper was incorrect. Under La. Revised Statute RS 32-295.1, subsection F the trooper is not allowed to search the person driving, the vehicle, or a passenger when stopped for a seat belt violation. Only a valid drivers license is required. The Trooper is wrong. What does he do to poor folks?

I knew it wouldn't take long for someone to claim to know "the real story". Just because you think you know somebody well does not mean you have all the facts, especially if you weren't even there. He wouldn't be flashing a badge, as you have called it, if the trooper had already asked to see it. That would be called cooperating. And a valid drivers license is not the only thing required to show during a traffic stop. You must also show proof of insurance and a valid registration. Sams should have been wearing his seatbelt to begin with, just like the rest of us have to. And there are 3 sides to every story-not 2. Let's not forget the truth.

Of all the sorry days to have a unit with no dash cam! "Whatever", you forget there is no "truth" in Red River Parish. And no law as far as that goes.

LMAO........IT AINT ABOUT ME! It's about a state trooper with 14yrs experience that will probably lose his job over typical Red River Parish crap. If he was wrong he should be punished for it. But, in Red River it's always "Do you know who I am?" Or "I know the sheriff" Or "I know ______ & you're just wasting your time" (Which is usually true). I'll stand by my opinion that in Red River Parish it has ALWAYS been the almighty vote from the top on down when it has anything to do with the law & probably always will be that way. Votes & money are the law down there. And at least I'm big enough to put my REAL name when I post here.

Ah but Anthony you made the mistake of assuming the trooper didn't do it, there were witnesses in the parking lot that saw the whole thing. The trooper actually was in the wrong. If it had been the average Joe he would have gotten away w/it. I'm just glad that Judge Sams is standing up for himself and doing something about it. It's correction officers like him that give the WHOLE bunch a bad name. So I hope that he DOES loose his job, and doesn't get just a slap on the wrist. And as for there being "no law" in RRP if ya think you can do a better job then step up to the plate....oh yeah you did and couldn't hang huh!

WOW...I hadn't hear about this!!! This is crazy! I don't know this trooper, but I do know Judge Sams and I have NEVER known of him to say anything or act inappropriately. I don't know the full story, but hopefully whatever happened will come out and either Judge Sams or this troopers reputation will NOT suffer anymore.
