I can not make the meeting due to a fundraiser i'm working at all week.....So, here are my thoughts! Thank You..........

Get rid of Section 8 Housing and the Projects! That will clean up our fine cities!! Move the Welfare, Social Security, and Unemployment offices to Greensburg where they belong. Clean out the High-rise buildings and give them back to the older people who need the help…… Maybe even staff them with some nurses to create some jobs in the city! Cut School Taxes and start charging tuition to people who have kids in the public schools so maybe these parents will start raising their own children and making sure they go to class. Instead of wasting the tax payers money that do not have kids in school! People pay more in school taxes to raise other peoples kids because the parents do not give a damn about it!! They send their kids to school,(or so they think that’s where they are), and the hard working people that have no children pay for them to have Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks, and Some even after school meals. I have no children and I feel that I shouldn’t have to support other people’s children!! I hear stories everyday about some women (I’ve ever over heard some talking) who have children just to get more back on their taxes at the end of the year, and to get welfare because they do not want to work!! You have to Love how People think in today’s age!! That’s all for now………… Any comments?

I drove through New Kensington for the first time on Sat. morning and to say the least I WAS SHOCKED! The downtown was so depressing and abandoned. What happened to all of the businesses? 99% gone! It is such a shame. I bet the city was once bustling and beautiful. This is what malls have done to our cities. We need to bring back our small towns once again. The mom and pop stores that built this country have been pushed out and it is a shame that our small towns are deteriorating like they are.

I've lived in New Ken / Arnold area all my life.
I bought a house in Arnold 7 years ago. In that time, 5 houses around me have emptied- families are leaving- and drug groups are slowly moving into these houses which are being turned into section 8 haven. what's good tho is....these groups cannot stay long because of course they arent paying their part of their rent... Growing up in this area- people were proud of their community, took care of their property, raised their children to respect others property... that's all a thing of the past....now all you see in upstanding people's yards and in the alleys...garbage- people who let their dogs loose to crap in other yards... and cars meeting on corners.... I am glad to see the 5th ave. project and 3rd ave. project FINALLY showing some results...I hope this can help....I am hopeful...

New KEN AND Arnold will never be revitalized no matter how much money you throw at them. You lost all of your industry-Alcoa,PpG,Arnold Glass,The Spring Works,Braeburn Steel and many other family sustaining companies. What you have now are service jobs and gov. jobs. These do not make a community strong and great.People need pride in themselves first(Having a good job,a reason to get up every day, something to look forward to,tradition, and family values-to name a few.)No matter how hard you try you cannot fix it.Old time values and really getting a grip on crime might be a good starting point.

What a sad commentary when the discussion turns to race. There are plenty of people of all races that add shame to this community. Keep an eye on the politicians...they are elected to serve the masses yet they only serve their personal agendas and the agendas of their cronies. The New Kensington-Arnold School Board is a perfect example of this. The majority of this board is resulting to underhanded politics in order to attempt to destroy a long standing community organization - AR Ken Football - and the children we should be protecting (children of THEIR school district) just to further their own agendas...SHAME ON THEM...THE VOTERS ARE WATCHING! The citizens DARE YOU TO RESPOND!

I was born and raised in New Ken and moved away for a job. I sold the Crown Building, the building on 4th Avenue and 10th Street to a gentleman who had some problems paying me. I never did get my money from him. The city contacted me and told me he trashed the building and that they had condemned it and it was on the list for demolition. The damage was so extensive that if I called in the moprtgage, I'd be stuck with a hugh cost to repair the place and pay all the leins he had on the property. I received a call from a friend the other day who told me the building is once again occupied. Can anyone verify this for me? If you know who the owner is, I'd be real grateful. If this is the man who took me for $90,000 and really changed my life, then I need to know. I could have retired a couple years back, but now I have to keep working to get my daughter through school and pay off several medical bills that I have. Please help me to right this wrong done to me and my family.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. I loved that town and invested in it's future and mine only to have my hopes ripped from under me and all for trusting a man who was without honor.

Please help me right this wrong.

Yes, one of the names is correct. Do you know if the property is being occupied again? I sent the person several mails and certified letters but he refuses to accept them. Have you had problems with these people before?

Thanks for the reply.

I've lived in New Kensington and Arnold my entire life. I'm only 19, but I do see that everything has basically gone down hill. My dad and a lot of the older people here always talk about how great the town was when it was run by the mafia. From all their stories, I wouldn't blame them for saying it, it sounded amazing.

But I do think that the best thing for the city to do is not to just create more jobs. But bring some entertainment to the town.

If we could say, Open up the theater again (Not just the preforming arts one either, I'm talking cinema.) Even brought in some more stores that appeal to entertainment and sports could help.(Gamestop, Foot Locker, maybe a mini-Dick's Sporting Goods) The town in my opinion isn't just full of druggies and criminals, but more or less, filled with people who are bored out of their minds, and see nothing else to kick start their lives with excitement.

This not only would start to bring more business, but would also create job opportunities, give some kids something to do. We can build on from there, bring in other types of medium to get older people interested and working. A variety of sit-in restaurants, some clothing stores, jewelery, ect.

None of the stores even mentioned need to be corporations. But I'm sure if we bring something to keep the population stimulated, we will see some real changes.=3

But hey, I'm just a kid, what do I know.. >3>

Your last sentence makes a lot of sense. The last time I was in town, I witnessed a big black guy arguing with a white chick that I assume was his favorite squeeze. They were on 5th ave. screaming obsenities at each other. I was stopped a short time later by a lady driving down 5th ave. in Arnold. She wanted directions to the post office. I pointed to the postoffice which was only a few doors from where we were. A black kid came out of nowhere and got into her car without a word and they drove away. I assume she was picking up her daily supply of drugs.
And you think I'd bring my wife and children in that atmosphere for dinner and shopping???

Yes, this once was "the" town to shop. Never lock car doors, say hello to everyone, busy streets, Banks playing Christmas carols over their speakers, Police walking the beat and "enforcing peace" as well as law. Folks would gather at the Kenmar coffee shop, and it was "the" place for breakfast, lunch and dinners. The bartender was friendly and the food was excellent. Carmella Mazziotti (Mazziotti's Bakery) was the cook, and that she did very well. Harts, Silvermans on Fourth Avenue...G.C.Murphy, Monarch, Central Office on 5th avenue...bus service...Sun Drug, Thrift Drug, Banks and a service to all....Now it is only a fond memory, and a part of our American heritage is gone....Oh yes....the Maffia was active, but the town was productive and the Maffia was not the one to be feared....like the government today is feared, and the government has been more corrupt than the maffia could ever be...look aground....Nuff said!
