Give you one more point about the wasting going on. Boyertown invested approximately 10 million dollars in a golf course that failed. A GOLF COURSE!! After law suits and attorneys fees, they recovered approximately 2 million dollars of their investment. They also received nearly a million dollars from a contractor who performed less than adequate work. The first item in the list when they received the money - buy new high back chairs for the administration. The state wastes money as well, but the school districts are a great place to start as the taxpayers can have a significant role in what gets wasted - or more importantly. what does NOT. But you cannot sit on your backside and expect it to change. The nice thing about elected officials - if you don't like what they do, elect new ones.

Why can't the Governor and his staff take a pay cut to help out the amount that he wants to cut from the school system.. Our children really need the proper education and with these cuts they are not going to get them. Thats what I would like to see.
Many administrators in school districts make more money than the Governor does. When the new administration took over in Boyertown several years ago, Top administrative salaries went from 70-80k a year to $118k a year. IN ONE DAY!! That's a 50% raise for nothing whatsoever. You have 4 principals in one high school making around $100k EACH per year. So how are these actions helping our children? Everyone thinks that these high-priced individuals make our schools a much better place. They go where the money is and have no loyalty whatsoever. Yes, the state wastes money as well, just look at any penndot crew. But your local school districts claim to be "fiscally responsible to the taxpayer" - a pity they never show it.

Get rid of the Unions!
Have teacher/administration pay cuts.
Why cant teachers pay for their own health care?
Why should teachers recieve healthcare after they retire?
Make sure the teachers/ administration are fullfilling their job duties.

The Gov was right with regard to Fast Eddie using all the Federal Stimulus Money for public schools in lieu of roads and bridges. North Carolina uses money from the general fund to fix roads and bridges and you can tell. In NC teachers don't make twice the amount of workers in the private sector!

The school system has run a muck. Cut sport, music, languages, and arts. Reading, writing, and arithmetic is what these kids need. We have too many teachers and far too much staff.

You can make budget cuts all you want, but until we get something that stops the annual property-tax increases that go straight to pay raises, nothing will improve.

So Boyertown needs to cut 5 million dollars to balance the budget. "It is all about the kids" right? How about all the teachers in the disctrict start contributing towards their healthcare? How much would that save? How about we also cut some administrative jobs? If after these concessions we need to cut school programs, so be it! It stinks but these are hard times. You can't expect the taxpayer to shoulder a tax increase so the kids can play baseball. How about pay to play? If you want to play a sport, band, self fund your children's activity... don't expect me to do it.
