Info wrote: Does anyone know the AA meeting times in BG? I really need help. Thanks. There are a couple more mtngs on Monday. But I can't tell you the times off the top of my head. If you would like I would be more that happy to meet or take you to any of these mtngs. There are some truly great people in recovery here in bg. Bg has been blessed with that.

Info wrote: Does anyone know the AA meeting times in BG? I really need help. Thanks. Recognizing the need for help is a major step in the right direction. It took me 15 years of knowing I had a problem. The last 5 years of those I just wanted to die but was to chicken to do so. I prayed that the bottle would kill me. But it did worse it let me live. I reached a point where I couldn't get drunk and I couldn't stay sober. I was in a perpetually state of absolute hell.

I spent years trying to explain to nonalcoholics(doctors, psychologists. Councilors, family) the pain and suffering we carry with. They try to understand but can't. When I got into the program I found I didn't have to explain. They already knew.

My biggest fear is what kind of withdrawl symptoms i will be having.

Info wrote: My biggest fear is what kind of withdrawl symptoms i will be having. Yea, that was always mine too. I would drink a case or more every day. I knew almost down to the minute how long I could go between drinks before dt's would kick in. I have cold turkey'd myself off alcohol many times in the past. Swearing to and making deals with God that I would never let myself get like that again. Always finding myself counting the hours between drinks not two days later. Trust me I understand.

Complete strangers, as I saw them then, loved me in early sobriety when I couldn't love myself. They were there when I was physically sick. They were there when the dt's went away. They were there when I realized how sick I was in the head. They were there when I started to recover. They are there today.

While I don't have any experience with destructive addictive behavior, I hope you are successful in your attempts to get sober. I applaud your efforts.
I'm not one to give advice, and the only thing I would offer is to try and surround yourself with like minded people who support, love, and care about your recovery.

Just the fact that you realize you have a problem and you are willing to do something about it is half way to solving the problem. I admire your willingness and I am praying that you make it so many don't, GOOD LUCK and don't give up sobriety is wonderful and it's a blessing I know from experience.

Info wrote: Sounds a lot like me. I wish you the best my friend. Alcohol took everything from me. Health, job, family, home, faith, friends, respect, dignity.... Point is it takes what it takes for us to try a new way of life. I've never seen anyone come into the rooms on a winning streak. I had absolutely no other options when I walked in. Everything I had lost or given up for that next drink. I got it all back and then some. I walked into the rooms hoping to learn how to drink successfully without the pain. I walked out having learned a new way to live. I'm happier today than I have ever been and I am free of the obsession to drink. I never thought that would be possible. But it is. I will keep checking this post. If you want to go to mtng, talk, or even just have someone sit with you that knows exactly how you feel. Just let me know.

You're only an alcoholic if you choose to drink. Period. That startling realization has kept me sober. You can change anything about yourself you wish. You don't have to be plagued by the past and introduce your self as an alcoholic. I swear to God it takes some time but one day (60 days for me) you will realize the fog in your brain has cleared. Now it's time to start moving on.
