Do you think Montague County needs an animal shelter? Since the city of Bowie won't take animals that have been dumped out in the county, I think the county needs its own shelter.

Absolutely they need one. Since people aren't responsible for their animals someone needs to be. But, then again, there's always the expense and a shelter has to meet state guidelines and it's not cheap. Yes, we need it. Can we afford it, probably not. Sad

Probably cheaper to offer free neutering. Not that half these dog-dumping idiots could be bothered to take the time for it.

Bowie Animal Shelter does offer free neutering in some instances. One is trapping and nutering feral cats, then returning them. We've caught 5 and made them unhappy. Hopefully we'll finally get all of them.

I believe that TNR program is offered through the Friends of the Bowie Animal Shelter. The shelter itself doesn't provide that service. It is owned and operated by the city. The volunteers are the ones who work hard to get the animals adopted out to good homes and write grants to be able to provide funding for sterilization of the TNR cats.

You are correct. I misspoke about the Shelter doing it. |
