I don't understand how people are suppose to spend with so many people laid off and today Caterpillar annouced more layoffs. What are people suppose to spend with?

Perhaps the recession will make everyone realize why our parents tried to teach us to save for a rainy day. I didn't grow up rich, went to college saved my money, and now live debt-free. I've never purchased a new car, I don't have a cell phone.

There are many expenses that are not necessary.
