Two Los Chavez residents accused of child abuse in a case where police say several children were beaten and subjected to electrical shocks in May pleaded no contest to several felony charges Monday in District Court.
Mundo and Welker both pleaded no contest to four counts of third-degree felony child abuse as part of a deal reached with the prosecution. The state agreed to drop the remaining charges against the two.

Assistant District Attorney Judith Reed said in court that Welker is believed to have beaten one of the children with a belt so hard that it broke and shocked the children.

Defense attorney Greg Gaudette disagreed with the accusation regarding the belt, but agreed there was a factual basis for the charges.

Reed said Welker had shown remorse for his actions. She said that he agreed to serve a minimum of three years in prison, and the state would not ask for more than 10 and a half years. Welker faces a total of 12 years in prison.

The two defendants also agreed to testify in any trials of their codefendants.

The children's mother, 25-year-old Kimberly Galzcynsky, previously pleaded no contest to four counts of conspiracy to commit child abuse.

The four defendants were indicted on four counts of first-degree kidnapping, four counts of intentional child abuse, one count of conspiracy to commit child abuse and one count of first-degree conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

The four were arrested after investigators learned that four children, ages 3 and 6 and a pair of 4 year olds, had allegedly been abused. There are two boys and two girls.

According to a criminal complaint, Galzcysky told detectives that it was Tunnell, her mother's husband, who had abused the children. She said that Tunnell would make the children put their hands on the kitchen table and whip them with a belt.

"She says that (Tunnell) has duct taped the kids to the chair, with towels over their faces, and electrocuted them," the criminal complaint says.

Welker told police that the shocking was a method to get the children to stop lying, and that he had only done it once.

I don't care what those kids did they should of never been shocked....lying or not....you take toys from them or something like that.....you don't abuse your kids for no reason....

And another thing that was drivin me crazy.....from what I understand...Brenda is Tony's mom......not Kim's mom

Brenda is Tony's Mom. She was married to a sex offender who is Tony's Father. Now she is Gerald Tunnell's girl friend. Haven't heard what has happened to him yet.

I hope those people rot in HELL. This makes me so sad! If I ever ran into them I would beat the living daylight out of them! Time in jail is not sufficient!!! How do we protect these children that we don't know that are hidden from the world & treated so inhumane! I hope that they BURN!!!!
