Went to the UK Gamecock game ,South Carolina has some of the nicest folks I have met (Class)! DA Kentucky is a nice place to live,Like I said there are shitholes everywhere. |
You must be the one that is slow, still living in ky. I too was borned and raised in eastern ky, wickliffe. Its always been a backward town with who you know is where you work. The school system is so political operated that no one will ever get a good education unless they move away. When they do get grown there is nothing for them to do to make a decent living. I left ky when I was 17 and very glad to have done so. Been in ever state and lots of overseas duty. Ky as a land is beautiful but the people are just not with it. A lot of people trying to be big frogs in a little pond. If u need help leaving just let me know and I will send you a bus ticket. |
I agree, living in ky sucks, I am a 100 percent disable veteran and all ky offers is using me for their political gains when they run for elected office. I changed my home of record to Fl. Here I get free car tags, free hunting and fishing license,55,000 dollars a year free property tax and free drivers license. I was borned and raised in wickliffe, ky and left when I was 17, never looked back. I have revisited a few times and sad to say all that has happened is down hill, Blandville-gone, barlow, gone, slater-gone, oscar-gone. Why? Cause to many on the payroll and not enough left to pay the tax. |

Kentucky is really 4 different locations in one state. From just outside of somerset thru west virginia and thru the northwestern part of virginia then people are much the same. These are the people that are called hillbillies. They have an entirely different outlook on life. Northern kentucky people are more like people from ohio. They have a different accent. Central kentucky is small farms, small manufacturing. It is kinda in a triangle between Louisville, Lexington and Bowling Green. Western Kentucky is flat and seems like u can see forever. It has larger farms, coal and they talk like the central kentucky people do. I am from this state. I have worked in several other states. And been overseas to Europe. And to mexico and canada. Now personally i like living in a place that u can walk out of your home and not have to lock 5 locks on ur door, turn on your alarm. If drugs are your thing. Then suprise you can get crack, pot and anything you want here. True a majority of the people belive in God and attend church at least on the holidays. We get all the tv and movies that the rest of the world does. Politics are crooked here. But from what i have seen in other places its true in every state in this nation. There are bad apples in every barrel. So choose your poison. Its not that bad a place. But then really any place in america is not that bad a place. Face it we the united states of america people live better than anywhere else in the world. That is why everyone else in the world hates america.

Hi,
Me and my fiancee are looking into relocating to Manchester, KY. I have been there once and loved it, in large part due to his wonderful parents. His mom cooked me biscuits and gravy...yummy! I am pregnant and due Nov. 26th (A BOY) We really want him to know his grandparents and family. I was wondering if anyone out there was from Manchester and could tell me about job options. |
Patty, On November 27 I will be 69 years old and was born in Kentucky, in the far west part of the state. Good luck to you.
Just paste this link in your browser and it will tell you all you need to know about Manchester. http://www.city-data.com/city/Manchester-Kent... |

To still waiting...If you think only in a small portion of Ky. people are called hillbillies, you are nuts. People who live elsewhere think everyone in Ky., Tenn., W.Va., and Arkansas are all hillbillies.

What is the health care system like in Kentucky? Is it hard to get a Doctors appointment? I heard that there are not enough Doctors in the rural areas. And that in some areas its hard to get medication. I was just wondering I am a RN and I have had a job opportunity in Morehead.
well people from indiana are "buckeye rejects" and people from ohio should at least drop their head and stub their toe a little when the say that |
lisa,i'm from olive hiil, which is ten miles from morehead.the problem seem's to be folks do not have health care insurance to pay for doctor visit's.seeing that your a RN you would have no trouble cave run lake is one of the most beatiful lakes i've ever seen although my travel has been limited.i think you would like the area beatiful,if your looking for great shopping you would have to travel several hours,Morehead has a small college so there's a nice mix of different kinds of people on a small town level.if i ever were to move back to the area Morehead is were i'd move

Well buddy, its pretty clear that you failed geography, because Wickliffe, Kentucky is almost as far west as you can get in Kentucky. I grew up just a few miles south along the Mississippi River. Wicklife is just a short hop from the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers at Cairo, Illinois. Cairo is pronounced as Karo. Now, you have made up that lesson from long ago. |

Elk Hunter, if you take the time to interract, I know you'll find helpful and intelligent people in Lawrenceburg. While college degrees are always a good thing, they are not necessarily indicative of intellect. We live near Rock Creek, even closer to the Glass mountain, but I lived closer to chaos in Philadelphia (during Three Mile Island), foul air (Los Angeles). If you judge a book by its cover, you'll miss some interesting and informative reading. As for me, I love where I live, and I agree with Lou Dobbs - why don't we all go change our voter registration to "Independent" just to send a message to Washington and to a very broken two party system? The heart and soul of this country is the middle class - hard working people who made America great. When they are criticized for less than savy attire, lack of sophistication, etc., you are insulting our forefathers. I proudly display a recolorized photo of my great-grandparents, Joe and Lucinda, standing in front of their mule. Lucinda wears a very stained apron, with Joe in bib overalls and a tattered brown derby to shield against the sun during plowing chores. I learned a lot a UK, but I learned a lot more visiting my grandparents in Appalachia. Being listed in "Who's Who of American Business" was nice, but it doesn't mean much in the overall scheme of life. If you are an Elk Hunter, then you must know that for yourself. |
