Campbell's Soup? LOL, what are you talking about, that was decades ago. And you are still harping on that?
I'm not sure where you are getting that Bonham has low taxes, you might do some research and compare it to similar sized towns.
Oh but wait, George or the guy from Emory will be on here to tell me that's wrong too!

You called? Here are some facts that even you "Anonymous" can verify: 1) we have the oldest school buildings in all of north Texas, 2) the majority of towns our size in north Texas have built new schools (including new high schools) within the last 5 years, 3) you can't blame maintenance people who are barely paid minimum wage for not performing structural maintenance on our buildings-they aren't trained to know how. People like you bitch when BISD spends money and then you bitch when they don't. I agree with the previous thread: RAISE MY TAXES and bring us into the 21st century so that our kids are educated to do more than work at McDonalds for the rest of their lives!!!!!!!!!

Were you the one that told me it was against the law to build schools on state highways? LOL! Way to look down your nose at McDonald's employees. There seems to be a constant theme here, the few posters that are so interested in caring for others and wanting others to succeed, yet all they do is launch personal attacks and bitch about everything. The voters spoke, easily slapping that bond down by more than 2-1. Like it or leave it.....or do something productive about it.

Finley Oates is the newest building in BISD. The rest of the buildings were built long ago, when athletics were only for boys. Nowadays, girls play sports too. One of my kids goes to Bonham HS. When the weather is bad, her PE class meets either in a classroom or the leaky drill team room because the one gym they have at the HS is being used by athletics at that time. The bond election would have given us another gym so that she could actually have room to be active in PE class. I have a kid in jr hi too. During basketball season, the girls and boys teams take turns practicing in the jr hi gym and the old gym behind the old auditorium. She hates practicing in the old gym, with horrible floors and flat basketballs. The gym at Evans is really small and so loud. The bond would have given us a new gym & cafeteria that the jr high and Evans would have shared. I thought that the idea of jr hi and Evans sharing some spaces was a creative idea that would have stretched our tax $$ farther. Our school buildings were also built back in a time when security was not such an issue as it is today. The bond would have re-done the entrances of some (or all - sorry I can't remember exactly) of the campuses in order to keep things more secure and our kids safer. Finley Oates is the newest and nicest campus, but it is getting overcrowded. My teacher friends there tell me that some closets have been used as testing spaces for kids. The bond would have given them more space there too. I'm disappointed that the bond didn't pass. And I think it is sad that so many of the reasons people give for not voting for it are because of things done by leaders who are no longer at BISD. We have new board members and a new superintendent, who are trying to turn things around.

Anonymous2 is exactly right. Tour the campuses during working hours, its obvious. If you don't have the money, or don't manage your money well, there might be a slight argument to have voted against. But that is the only reason. What petty criticisms there are about the past or present school board, administrators, etc, doesn't amount to a hill of beans. The kids are being taught in closets in the newest school because there is not enough room. The nay-sayers don't understand why the bond wasn't all for a new high school but in the same breath want "maintenance to fix the electrical system in stead of just running cords..." If that isn't just patch work, I don't know what is. Despite some being available to post comments charging us to "do something productive," all day long while some of us have to work, they manage to not post a single solution. I live here, own a business here, and provide for more than 2 children. My total tax increase would have been more than $2500. I can think of no better way to invest one's money. But as has been pointed out, I am in the minority.

That's what is great about this country, every one has a right to cast their vote if they choose to. I don't see any namecalling or attacks from anyone that voted against it. Why is it just some of the 500 or so that cast a yes vote that are so full of anger towards other people? Good grief.
