Ok so let's all agree to disagree. But I am wondering what is the solution? Please give your solution. Let's try something productive here on topix.
Here are the issues. What are your solutions to... 1. Capacity problems that are present and coming 2. Condition of the older buildings. 3. Lack of space (i.e Science Labs that meet state standards, gyms so there are no conflict in scheduling, Cafeteria space, additional instruction space for reading intervention, dyslexia, life skills, art, choir, band, etc.) 4. Security for our children and staff (secure entrances and cameras). 5. What could the board/district have done differently on getting out the information to the public besides handouts available at all schools and even some businesses, tours, meetings and website. 6. How do we get the tax payers to release their mistrust in the current board that has given no reason for that mistrust? If you say you have children in the Bonham schools then you have to want something better. They deserve it. They spend 180 days a year in these buildings. That's almost half of the year! I am eager to read your responses. God Bless! |

Scheduling problems at gyms? We've had the same number of gyms for years. What new sports have we added? Come on, the gym at the junior high is not all that old and the basketball games I've been to, you can pretty much pick wherever you want to sit.
Condition of the older buildings? Get the maintenance department to work. Get rid of the mainetance director/ex AD/ex football coach, who rides around town and is never overseeing anything. That would be a start. Hey, I agree there are problems. Every school district in the state has some sort of problems. But you don't present a $40 million bond at this time without showing exactly the cost breakdown and you aren't even getting a new high school out of it. Like I said leading up to the vote, people in this town remember the disastrous land purchase out on 82, and they aren't going to soon forget the golden bathrooms built that they slipped in on the last bond election. Even if it was others in charge at that time, the voters in rural, small areas like this don't forget and others will have to "suffer" from that. |

Anonymous, you are an idiot! The new bathroom at Warrior Stadium weren't paid for with a bond election. They were paid for with money from the fund balance. Maybe you can say that we didn't need new bathrooms at the stadium and maybe you can say that it was okay for every person who used them to wade through "gray" water that flooded them every single game because the drains & plumbing were inadequate. They also didn't cost $500,000 or 1 million as some of the knuckleheads in this town were reporting.
Good grief! Yall quit beating a dead horse and put your energies to trying to find a solution to the problems of RIGHT NOW as "Hopeful" has suggested. |
The money from the last bond election that passed went towards bathrooms at Warrior Stadium. They cost between $300K and $400K. Call the admin office and check the cost.
But yes I'm an "idiot" for reporting that!! LOL! |
I know exactly what the bathrooms cost because I saw the checks and know exactly where the money came from. The last bond election built Finley-Oates.
If you can't get your facts straight, stay in the coffee shops! |
The last bond election was used for several things. I didn't say the whole thing was for the bathrooms. I'm glad you "saw the checks". You can then verify what was spent.
Way too much! That's what it was. |

Joan - You are correct! No bond money for bathrooms. The coffee shop council members do not understand construction, maintenance, or lift stations. You can build a bathroom for less than was paid. The lift station is another matter. Warham can gladly throw his Tomahawk without slipping in poo thanks to the over $100K lift station. There needs to be a lift station built city wide to lift the POO from some of the knuckle head's brains that are playing arm-chair quarterback and desperately searching to thwart any progress by their mal-informed propaganda. Distraction from the real agenda I know, but hey gotta set the record straight. I am going to BISD admin office tomorrow and donating some money for a PORT-A-POTTY to be placed under the stands. On the outside it will be labeled "Anonymous" - in tribute to the solution finder/ savior of Bonham Texas that we should all bow-down to and ask for atonement for not voting for protection of his/her almighty tax dollar.

"Beat" - count me in on that port-a-potty! But unless you make sure it's purchased from Anonymous, he'll claim that you paid "way too much"!!!

1 Pretty clear that you don't know what you are talking about. I am talking about the construction of the metal building and bathrooms only! Joan, since you are in the know and have access to view checks and such, care to tell everyone how much the district was billed for each comode? Go ahead, tell them the acurate number. People in this town would fall over if they only knew!!! It's amazing how ill people get when an outrageous bond gets shot down so bad! |
LOL!! Anonymous, you are the only one that has't provided any facts. You didn't even bother to attend the meetings or the tours! It's quite obvious you don't know what you are talking about and just spouting off the hearsay and rumors from the good old cafe.

I found these articles/info interesting. You should read. Please realize that the dollar amount in the last two articles starts with the 1,000s.

1 You know who didn't attend the "meetings" or "tours"? 99.9% of the voters. So keep calling everyone "ignorant" and talk of the town "dying" and "fading". I'll keep being proud of my town and seeing the positives!!! Carry on! |

The gym at the junior high is very nice - but only one team (boys or girls) can practice in there at a time - so one team practices in there, and the other has to go down the street to the old gym behind the old auditorium - the floor in there is not quite right for basketball. (And 7th grade practices before school and during 1st period. 8th grade in last period and after school.) The gym at IW Evans Intermediate School is really small, and the echo is terrible, which makes it very hard to hear in there.
I understand things aren't nice at the old gym behind the auditorium, but are you telling me junior high kids can't practice there? Come on! We practiced and played games there and didn't lose a single basketball game in two years I was there. A lot of memories from that old gym. Who else here played in there? I thought it was kind of neat when they switched it to the stands on one side only.

Good grief, Anonymous, how old ARE you?!? "If it was good enough for me, it's good enough for the next 10 generations".....you don't even know how stupid that sounds!! Thanks for the laugh!! You made my weekend!!! Oh man....that was a good one!!! Oh, oh,...can't stop laughing......

Once again, no solutions presented by those intent ONLY to distract. The community’s children could have benefited from some of the lowest construction costs we may ever have again, yet some still cannot get their head "literally" out of the "toilets." And we are the immature ones? Obvious tangents to this debate are the threads on the football team for example. When I remember the “good old days” of Bonham football, the facilities allowed teachers to teach to standards, and the athletes of the county gravitated to this district. Bonham Football struggles now because a lot of the athletes are now sticking with Ector, Sam Rayburn, to Dodd City. And by the way, nothing is personal when your identity is hidden. The dilemma at the gym is correct, and not just isolated to LH Rather. The only thing constant about life is change. The only thing constant about Topix – Bonham forums?... Pretty obvious…
LOL! I played football for Bonham nearly 20 years ago, in the middle and towards the end of the playoff run. I don't remember any kids transferring in from Ector, Dodd City, and Sam Rayburn schools. That's the funnies thing I've heard. Those schools don't even play football!!!
LOL, I'm glad you can laugh, the others on where just walk around with bitter beer faces and whine about everything. And they are probably the ones that rent and don't directly pay any taxes, but are outspoken about this bond. But I guess some of them will be leaving, since they said on here they are moving because this town is "dead", "dying", or "fading". LOL! |
I don't think it's whining, just frustration with the lack of ability to look into the future and plan for it that many of the people who live in Bonham don't seem to be able to or want to do. And as for taxes, I would have been paying a lot more in taxes had this bond passed and was fine with it. I've been greatly blessed and am happy to pass on those blessings to the future generation.....
But it's good that you have a sense of humor, Anonymous!:-) |

"Bonham Football struggles now because a lot of the athletes are now sticking with Ector, Sam Rayburn, to Dodd City" I am quite aware those districts don't play football. I am also aware of some very athletic students that give up playing football for Bonham to go to the other districts where the taxpayers get behind the students and not in front of them. This is like arguing with a doorknob.
