I don't really see what the issue with these "sources" are. While social networking sites aren't conventional sources, it IS 2009 and if that's the only place you can find information about something, then why not? Do you think this journalist can go look up World War Crew at the fucking library?

For anyone "in the know" about this scene, of course this article is going to be weird. But for some outsider who is completely disconnected, I think he did enough homework. Maybe his methods weren't the best, but he came to a pretty realistic conclusion about this group.

It's too bad that gangs, yes, gangs such as World War, Militia, and Guerilla Crew all exist and for the wrong reasons. They've had way too much power in the VCU/Fan/Carytown district for too many years. It's time that someone recoginzes that their antics must come to an end.

if you are going to take quotes from craigslist, you might as well take an intelligently written one, so that you can then assume that the author was genuine. the craigslist post you quote is CLEARLY a joke, not serious at all, and most likely not even written by someone from world war crew. people have posted all sorts of ridiculous comments claiming that they are part of wwc, in the hopes of making them look stupid or malevolent.
secondly, this story is so fragmented and biased. you can't just say that members of world war showed up and started fighting people for drinking, when that is not the story of what happened at all. you only interviewed people who got hurt, or whose friends got hurt, so of course they are going to take the blame and put it on the only names they know.
just because sawyer was at a party does not mean he was in a fight. same can be said for drew. people just recognize the faces and project the worst on them. you might want to think about approaching future stories from an angle that takes both points of view into account, and doesn't take internet jokes from facebook or craigslist seriously.
this sort of publicity could be very detrimental to an individual, so maybe you should check your facts before publishing it.

for anyone in the know this article is going to be weird? did you think about the fact that for anyone in the know, this article could be completely false and we can see right through it? i know a few of the guys affiliated with wwc, i'm not super close with any of them, i consider myself totally unbiased, and a fairly removed outsider to the situation, but i was at both parties, and i know them well enough to know when they are joking. and this article is completely unreliable.

worst article i've ever read. completely agree with the last two comments, this is complete bull****. pretty sure the city of richmond has much larger problems to work on. "angry at teenage drug and alcohol abuse" are you kidding me? being in the news for NOT doing drugs, thats a new one.
oh get off it rany, we all know they do every bit of this. i'd always hoped you wouldn't file in with them. but whatever, no big loss. i wonder if you know they jumped some of our high school friends last year and beat up his girlfriend. i swear if i ever see one of them hit a girl i'll beat them senseless, and it doesn't matter what they do to me. grow a pair rany, good ol' lakeside showin' through you.

We would like to thank Mark Holmberg and the VCU class of 09 and the years past for all the press and attention we have recieved as of late. It's nice to see that we maintain such an impact on the community and still seem to be a deep concern even in these times of an economic crisis. Despite countless and uncoordinated attempts by the richmond city and vcu police department we still remain at large and continue to terrorize the fan district and the helpless students that occupy it. We hope everyone has a great holiday and for those readers who are skeptical about our reign on richmond and what will happen next, just wait till next semester. See you in 2010!

I'm 30, and having lived in RVA for most of my life until just a couple of years ago, I can tell you one thing: If RVA is good at one thing, it's bringing back around tired old shit that has everyone my age saying, "been there, done that."
Seriously, this is not anything new in the city and everyone here acting "surprised" about the media coverage is full of shit. I was around back in H804 days (the tail-end of it) and have since seen new "Crews" spring up every 3-5 years. It's generational, people.
These WWC kids not tough guys, they're sad, scared and lost. People tend to hang out with other like people. Forming "gangs" and "crews" (which is no different than fraternities, technically). These kids are acting out against a society that would accept them if they acted like civil human beings - not like sad little kids that didn't get enough hugs growing up.
With that being said, nearly every single person that has been affiliated with a "crew" over the past 15 years that I have had the pleasure of knowing have all basically grown up and moved on. They're all pretty much some extremely nice guys and girls. And most of them try not to fight (maybe because the arthritis due to old age?), but probably since they realize there' more things in life than being a tough guy. And I'm sure that although they make for great reminiscing stories with each other, I'm pretty sure they'd be the first to hold back aggressors during a fight rather than being the first to jump in.
Give these kids a few years. They'll be able to look back at these posts and laugh at themselves. a lot like what me and all my friends are doing at them now.

Most of WWC is cool. I've seen them start some bs fights before and fight three or more against one kid probably for just hearing him shhhit talk about WWC or something, but shouldn't have talked shhhit. They make the scene what it is. Setting up shows and everything. If you respect them they won't phug with you. More than 75% of WWC I've never seen cause drama. And whoever said GC started shhhit back in the day that is total bs. They are cool and chill dudes. Phug all the haters on here.
A crew and a gang are different. Gangs start shhhit and a certain area is there's. Crews only fight when they are threatened or someone fucks with one of the members. So I suggest to all the dumbazzes to not phug with people.

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Taurus

If your goals are fairly modest in the short term, they are achievable and you're likely to get some praise for achievements along the way. If you aim too high too quickly, others might not take you seriously or think you're being uppity and you could come unstuck. It's all a question of attitude and approach. There are contradictory influences over the next ten days but there could also be good luck coming your way.
