To me, Roger seems to be a combination of Winston Churchill and Chuck Norris. His unique leadership has made Bolingbrook the envy of the region and a great place to call home. He has my respect and gratitude and I hope he chooses to remain as mayor for many more years.

You guys above are funny people. Rog has GOT to go. I travel often and I read the controlled news. I can tell you that Roger is a facade to the Republican Party who has no fresh ideas, spends like a drunken sailor with our money, and has the heart of a stone.

Lady you sure don't know the Bolingbrook area. I don't live there but I've seen how that city has grown properly over the years. It's a clean, nicely laid out city that seems to do the right thing for it's people. And it has great stores and motel accomodations. Seems like a pretty good place to live. Sometimes it takes money to achieve these things.

Location, location, location. Wonder if that had anything to do with B. being a great city.

Location, location, location had alot to do with Bolingbrook becoming a great city. But, it could not have happened if we didn't have somebody of Mayor Claar's caliber at the helm. His foresight and persistence has made Bolingbrook what it is today- the crown jewel of the southwestern suburbs!

If he has so much foresight, why is Bolingbrook the only town in Illinois losing money on a municipally owned golf course? When almost every marketing study you could name shows that golf has been losing popularity since the 1980s he spends millions of dollars on this monument to excess? And it's been consistently losing money ever since. Not to much foresight shown there.

Why is Bolingbrook the only town that owns it's own money-losing real estate development Americana Estates? Most municipal governments are smart enough to sell the land to developers and let them assume the risk of developing the property while the government collects the tax revenue. Thanks to Mr. Claar's "foresight" there is very little tax revenue and we have this huge white elephant still sitting on our books almost a decade later.

And then there is the village owned "International Airport" it makes the village little or no money but he says it attracts business leaders. I guess that's why we see that constant stream of limos coming and going at the airport. Most business leaders travel by corporate "jet". Clow airport can't accommodate jets only propeller aircraft so exactly what business leaders is he planning to attract Charles Lindbergh?

Is Roger Claar a complete idiot? No. He has done some good things, too. But he takes credit for a lot of things he shouldn't like Bolingbrook's ideal location next to I-55 and I-355 and he pretends the bad things never happened. That's why the village's real crime statistics are under-reported and why he never, ever talks about the real reason the village needs to raise revenues (remember the recent yard waste sticker fiasco)… the real reason the village needs to raise revenues is because we're still bleeding money from his pet projects I mentioned above.

That's not foresight. That's malfeasance. Plain and simple.

Dear Funny People,
I don't mind if you don't like Roger...who cares...but it is very nasty of you to post such horrible lies. I have known Roger for many many years - he is not addicted to anything - he has never done any sort of drugs; you are truly evil to post such untrue items. You should be ashamed but I know you'r not - you're too stupid to even know you're stupid.

Of course they are not true. Some people have no regard for what they say or post on websites, talk fourms or blogs.

Claar has done a great job of guiding this community from what I have seen and what I know. I moved my business here 8 years ago because I met with him and discussed my need for more space. He is the biggest advocate Bolingbrook could ask for. I had made inquirries into other communities and was given off to a planner or mid level staff person. Mayor Claar was hands on and sat in on our first two meetings. This made me very comfortable knowing that the leader of the town I was about to invest $3 .5 million dollars in was there to help address any issues that may have come up.
This is a VERY professionally run community and is the envy of a great many area communities. I would suggest, based on my experience, that Mr Claar has plaid a huge part in making Bolingbrook what it is. I have had a handful of brief interactions with Mayor Claar these past several years , never attended a fundraiser nor had a drink with him, but I know he cares immensely about what goes on here.
He always asks about my business if for nothing more than to keep his finger on the pulse of what's going on in town. Trust me you do not get that in every town. Even where I live (not Bolingbrook) and know the local leaders well I rarely get the type of engagement that come readily in Bolingbrook. Mayor Claar is a champion for this town you are lucky to have his leadership whether you like his style or not the proof is in the results.

If you truly admire Claar's accomplishments and believe he's done a lot for the community, why force feed your point on topix?

If Claar and his supporters are truly convinced and proud of their accomplishments, why not stand firm with confidence and class? Instead, they go on defense, attacking anyone that questions them. That's not a sign of strength, it's a clear sign of weakness.

Some consider Claar & supporters to be very rigid, mean-spirited individuals, who thrive on bullying, vulgarity and excess.

We are very confident in our opinions, and handle it with class. None of us feel the need to go on a blog and attack anyone who disagrees.

Grow up.

Now we're entering the crazy zone. I have no idea what you're talking about. Who's BBReport? What on earth do they have to do with the excessive and vulgar behavior of Claar and his supporters? The topic of this debate is Mayor Claar.
Good to know that you don't know who they are. I guess that you don't read the topix board often. If you did, surely you would have come across some of their vulgar comments. I guess that they don't have as many supporters as they think that they do.

Someone did accuse Mr Claar of illegal behavior earlier in this topix. Do you approve of those type of comments?

These detractors are individuals who dwell in the negative and refuse to appreciate a long-term vision. from a government that puts it's residents first hence why MONEY Magazine continues to recognize Bolingbrook as on of the Top 50 Places to Live. People have choicezs-if you don't like where you live, move. If you can't move, bring constructive thoughts to the table. A vindictive approach is a sign of weakness. And best yet, know the facts before you make false statements.

And you and his supporters continue to live in a fantasyland where Roger can do no wrong. If he wastes millions of taxpayers dollars on his dream golf course who cares Money magazine selected us as one of the Top 50 places to live. It doesn't matter that we have to risk cutting village services to pay for that thing?

And what about all the vindictive Republicans who constantly criticize President Obama? Do you think they should all just up and move to Canada because their vindictive approach is a sign of weakness. Criticizing the government is every American's constitutional right except here in Bolingbrook according to you.

The golf course made a profit last year and is expected to do even better this year. Many of us love that facility and visit it frequently. Go away!

Oh, OK. I see because you love it and you use it the rest of us should have to pay for it! I can see why you are a Roger fan… you think exactly the way he does.

But guess what, the taxpayers of Bolingbrook are not here to support your hobbies and your lifestyle! The village should not be in the business of owning and running a golf course. That is what the park district if for that is what the private sector is for. Government has as much business running a golf course as it does running an amusement park. The golf course has cost the taxpayers of Bolingbrook millions of dollars since it has opened. And even if it did manage to turn a miniscule profit this year, do you know how much money it would have to make for the village to break even on the deal? Millions more. And that's not going to happen in any of our lifetimes.

If you and Roger want to belong to a country club go and do it. Or go and build one with private funds and private investors. Just don't ask the rest of us taxpayers to pay for it.

P.S.- And I'm not going to go away anytime soon. That's one thing I have in common with the village's golf course debt.
