I know I'm not the only resident excited about this... it's not the fact that we are the first... but it's the thought that we won't be the only one in the near future. Anyone that knows the town of Rock Port, knows we love to be one the cutting edge, or even better yet... the starters of a trend.

Most of all we just hope that by us doing this, it shows other rural areas that they have the potential to do the same... very exciting times.

I live in RP and am also excited about this. I am all for going "green" especially with the rising cost of crude oil. More communities I feel will get on the ball when they see that this can succeed. America needs to cut our dependence on foreign oil, and these turbines, combined with the ethanol plants and biodiesel plants going up around the midwest, are a good start. And it helps local farmers also.

Yeah, it's a big move, especially with the extra commerce (little, but extra) that it'll bring in. Along with the ethonol and bio-diesel plant too.

Actually if you go north to the buffalo ridge in minnesota they have 10 times the amount of windmills that rock port has. they put them up 15 years ago. Rock port is on the cutting edge of nothing

Why is it neccessary within the united states to mock an individual whom we don't even know upon first meeting?
The individual from blue springs above ought to be treated like Andrew Meyer in the early hours of the AM for the statement posted above along with all those who have forgotten what polite is.
Blue springs- get some manners, or get off the web.

I hadn't been in the area for quite a while until this past week. I was shocked at how bad and littered the landscape looks now. I think the wind turbines have ruined what was once a nice looking bluff.
Don't get me wrong ,I don't care because I don't have to look at them every day.
Maybe they should have put them in one area instead of scattering them all over the place.

They may have windmills, but that's not what we're talking about, Rock Port will be the first 100% renewable source powered place in the nation. That's what we're proud of, not just the fact that we're being powered by 4 and the other 24 are feeding the power needs of others.

And as far as the landscape, if you go down I-29, You can't see them (I don't think), and you still get the scenic beauty of the bluffs. I also don't think they're beautiful by any means.

Is it going to be more beautiful to have a world with a bunch of junked-out machinery because we don't have the resources (oil) to run them? I think the turbines are beautiful because they mean that our country is finally starting to do something about our dependence on foreign oil. Beauty should be seen with more than just one's eyes.

Personally speaking it has done very little as far as the prices of energy. I know for a fact our energy cost rose last year 25.3% for an all electric home and 4.9% this year, so there is no savings being passed down to the consumer.

Why is it that they put them in and suppose to help the energy bills, but atchison holt elect is rising the price once again in less than one year. It's don't helping the country people one bit.

So, you think their great, is your bills cheaper? I bet not. They are just as high as ever and won't be getting any cheaper. They are noisy at night, sounds like alot of traffic, when windows are open at night you can hear them.

Do you remember when KQTV interviewed Atchison Holt Electric and Wind Capital Group ? They said and I quote "We will not raise energy rates" that was a out right lie.......
I also have not heard of Atchison Holt holding a board meeting so the PUBLIC can voice their opinion, I feel like it's all done behind closed doors.

Atchison Holt is a co-op that not only feeds this area, but also up into Iowa quite a ways. That interview was cut off, the rest of that quote is "We will not raise energy rates, solely because of the wind towers". Just like with all other news programs, you have to do your own research on top of what they do, because they're only going to give you half the story.

I still think they're great, it's a nationwide (dare I say worldwide) view on what has to be done to combat decades of wasteful carbon emissions. That's really what they are to me, more of a message to the rest of the nation. Not something to benefit me personally.

We have to pay higher rates, so the employees of Atchison Holt can drive 2500's which are probably $10,000 more than what they were driving. Nice, huh?
