Hope you rest well. Yes, there is always a chance of troll arrival, but there are just no posts to speak of at all on this thread.

And, in order to find this one, you have to first go to the site map, and then to 'entertainment' and then to 'people' and then to, i think 'all people' and then to 'american indian.'

There is a good chance we may be safe from troll activity.:o)

It's a very exciting prospect to think that we can visit and discuss important issues without much risk of interruption or trolls.

May Grandfather look upon each of you favorably today and make smooth and safe the path before you.

Views, you asked about the project that i am volunteering on and i would be honored to tell you about it.

I live about 12 miles from the site where Chief Duwa'li was murdered in 1839 by the Texas militia during the infamous Massacre of the Neches. Back in the 1930's, i believe it was, someone had the State put a historical marker at the site, but Duwa'li, of course, never had a proper funeral.

In 1995, the American Indian Cultural Society (AICS - an offshoot of the American Indian Heritage Society) purchased 68 acres of land, including the site where Duwa'li fell, was shot in the back, and then turned to face his murderers, Henry Conner and Robert W. Smith, with honor and bravery while they finished murdering him and desecrated his remains.

Eagle Douglas and his wife were able to purchase an additional two acres, one on each side of the dirt road that leads to the monument land.

Eagle Douglas and others, among them my friend, Sondra, and other ancestors of the survivors of the massacre held Duwa'li's funeral for him, 156 years after his death.

This land is so sacred and so filled with the anguish of the 13 associated tribes that it is impossible to walk upon it without feeling the presence of the warriors and the fear of the women and children.

Sondra is the granddaughter of one of the children who survived.

Each year in July they have a Memorial service for Duwa'li at 'the land,' as it's called. Volunteers, out of their own pockets, make NDN art objects, items of meaning, jewelry and other items for people who attend the Memorial to purchase and we donate all the proceeds to the building fund.

The goal is to build an American Indian library on one side of the entrance and, eventually, a cultural center for continuing the tradition of passing down the stories and the arts. Sondra has, through the years, accumulated enough books to already stock the library with a significant start.

I was given the honor of volunteering this year in the contributing and making of items to sell at next year's fundraiser.

Sondra is 68 y/o now and she has a great need to see the library to fruition and she wants to be able to teach the children for as long as Grandfather allows her to walk the earth.

Eagle has driven 180 miles a day, virtually every weekend since the land was purchased, to care for the land, most of the time single-handedly.

Eagle and Sondra are the two most dedicated people i know and their heart is in every branch, blade of grass, stone and tree on the land.

This is a worthy project here in east Texas. We are going to create a place for all NDNs in this area to interact, learn, create, teach and hand down this history in the proper way and, with the help of Grandfather, to bring People out of hiding and restore confidence and pride in who they are and create a working, supportive community.

Because Duwa'li was Cherokee, Cherokee language lessons will begin at the land on the 13th of September. There is no building yet, but we will all sit upon the clean ground as our ancestors did and we will teach and we will learn.

I misreported the dates. The funeral for Duwa'li was held in July '95; AICS bought the land in '97.

Hi my friends. You heard me talk on the other post about my theory of how the mound builders came to settle in North America. As I said before these Indian came from Central and South America following the coast line until they came to the Mississippi river delta. This delta looking much like the Amazon delta they traveled upward until they found a place with plenty of fish and game. They build the mound at Kahokia IL. which is the center of all mounds. The pottery and arrow heads found there are the same found in Central and South America. These Indians worshiped the sun and the Deliware Indian who have be called by other tribes as being the oldest in the North American community called these people the ancient ones. I have heard many thing have been learned from them by the North American Indians.

I had stood on the Great Mound in Kahokia IL. and have felt it's power. Something I will never forget. I also hope to return soon. Anyway from that one Gigantic Mound spred out to smaller communities who bullt mound in Kentucky and other mound building areas (States).

This is only a theory but I believe it to be good and reasonably possiable. Oh, and by the way ladies I'm here.

I watched a special somewhat recently on the migration through the kelp forests and i find it to be the most logical theory of all the theories.

I think, Mockingbird, that you theory is sound.

People can deny many things, but they cannot deny the exact work of the artifacts that are found.

I would like to invite someone into our group. She is of Inuit and Seneca descent and she has had many experiences in the preservation of the petroglyphs. She is a kind, sweet, funny and very informative person.

She, too, has about given up on Topix because it seems impossible to hold together a group, even if it is small, that is interested in intellectual discussions and camaraderie. Based on the posts each of you have made, i believe you will find her a welcome addition.

Would either of you object? If so, i will certainly honor your wishes.

For some reason my "e" on keyboard is not working so good today.

As you know, I think the American NDNs are from th same wav of migration as proto-Phoenicians. I am collecting evidence so any clues you have would b welcome.

Mound building sounds to me like precursor to pyramid building. Do you think purpose of mound building is to be closer to sun? Or do you think mound building is trying to replicat the original location of migrators which may have been mountainous island regions of Indonesia? These regions were obliterateed by volcanic activity. Som think this is also the source of Atlantis stories.

falasha, you said not to be surprised if the trolls started arriving. i looked really hard to find this hidden thread. If you look at the bottom of the page, you'll see that no one has even posted on this thread since April, 2006 and that is the *only* post ever made on this entire topic site.

I went searching with a heart that could find something almost invisible. Perhaps Grandfather led me here.

I talked to the Park Rangers about my theory. The answer they gave was it is not possible, because these mounds were built from earth and wood. Duh! When thats all one has to work with you make do. Right?

The Rattle Snake gorget stands for a spiritual leader. Took my heart in learning the Cherokee ways of wisdom, life and the old ways. However I am devoted and honored that I was asked to do this. So now you know.
