Why do they need security guards when they already have the MacArthur Airport Police and the SCPD Airport Operations Unit?

Raise my taxes, cut my services, raise fees and then you cut corners on air transportation security.

Tabled to another day when Nolan can sneak another one by us. I wonder what this Company has on him to even get it tabled rather than thrown in the trash!

It would seem that the smart move here would be to increase the number of Islip Town Airport Police Officers, many are part time, many have prior law enforcement experience, and all must pass an intensive background investigation. The town should grab the bull by the horns and make a sound decision affecting the safety of all who use the airport. With the part time police officers, no extra benefits need be paid, there are loads of law enforcement officers, both retired and current who would be available to work there. This would resolve the security and cost considerations. The frame work to supervise these people and effect the change is already in place. The numbers of new hires could be tied to reflect the cost of the contract that would have been granted to the security company. The part timers could be paid on a strict hourly basis.

I agree. The last thing they need is a bunch of square badge cop buffs doing security work at an airport. Hire more retired cops. They don't need benefits or a pension since they already have that, they have the experience and they already have gun permits.

You know what? Who cares? All these security guards are a farce. Keep that Light Flashing on teh cars so the "bad guys" know when you are coming and wait a while before commiting the crime.
