A building at the correctional center that houses many inmates has been without heat for over a month. Considering the recent historical winter storms, this is appalling and inhumane. I have contacted Tulsa news stations and various Vinita organizations and nobody seems to care

They are in prison. Give them a blanket or two and be done with it. If prison is comfortable then what is the motivation to stay out when you get out.

If it was your family member or friend in the prison, you just might care a little more. Remember that the inmates at Vinita are minimum security so yes they committed a crime but they are not the most heinous of offenders. Everyone deserves humane treatment, in prison or not.

Oklahoma in general thinks they know what they are doing when it comes to the judicial system. Sorry, they are sadly mistaken. States like NJ, NY hand out fair sentences while OK doubles or triples the sentence for the same offense. Yes, I do have a family member that has recently been incarcerated in Vinita. He had a hard time when his girlfriend used him and broke up with him. His mistake was he didn't handle his emotions right, he threatened her on numerous occasions after the breakup. He was 100% in the wrong for how he handled his pain and anger. Anyway, after being ordered numerous times not to contact her, he still called and threatened again. Is it worth 10 years in prison though? No denial, he was in the wrong all by himself, he was responsible for his actions. After much research, I found that most other states would have given between 2-3 years for the exact charges.

In reference to Vinita Prison! I can only repeat what I have read and heard. It seems to be a hell hole especially for a so called minimum security facility. No AC, No heat, supposedly nothing to sleep on but a metal platform, no mattress or sheet. According to the "NOT SO CONCERNED CITIZEN" May 19, 2007, they are in prison. I totally understand, believe me. They are human! Maybe some are worse off than others but some just made some bad choices in life. They need to pay for their crime and hopefully come back out into the world and learn by their mistakes. I happen to be one of those people that made a bad choice 25 years ago, paid for my mistake, learned by it and have been a great asset to society ever since. I of all people can tell you that if you make a bad choice in life and have to pay for it, great, you deserve it. But while you're paying for it, you are treated like an animal, you will become an animal and they have taken everything from you that you will need to survive in the real world. Sorry, you got me started on a very sore subject that most of you NOT SO CONCERNED CITIZENS no nothing about.

The man that shot my brother in the head and left him there to die is now in this so-called prison. My brother doesn't have the option to go to sleep on a nice comfortable bed and visit with his children any longer, so why should these prisoners have special rights. Throughtout this whole ordeal, I have learned that the people that comment these crimes have more rights than we do, as the ones that are left behind to carry on without being able to talk, hold or spend time with our family members that have been taken from us.
I want him to be haunted every day of his life with the memory of what he has done!

Northeast OK Correctional Center will not let me visit my husband because I was the victim in his crime and he will be there for more than a year. Just because he beat me doesn't mean that I don't want to see him. I do want us to work out our problems and people wonder why the divorce rate is so high in Oklahoma. I don't know of many marriages that can overcome something like this. How can we stay together if they won't let us see each other or talk to each other for two years!

It is proven that majority of people who are violent were taught that by their parents and also aquired it through cognitive learning. Yes, it is up to those people to turn their lives around and address their issues, but as a wife and a friend, I will be there to support my husband while he gets the help he needs. He hasn't meantioned anything too bad about NEOCC, so maybe this will help.

my personal opion is if they did the creime they need to do the time. Why should we make all better for them while they are in prison? So, next time they commit a crime they can think ti them self "well it wasn't so bad last time". No, way!! Just basic stuff. That's all they need. I have a friend here and have worked in law enforcement, the one thing I do agree on is getting their education while they are there. Thats it. Some people who work hard everyday, pay their bills, teach their children right and wrong, and contribute to society, dont have a much as what inmates can get!!!!! They are just that INMATES!!! no matter what the crime was, just deal with that.

I totally agree with "JOHN W" who says that they sentence these inmates too hard...Well some, of tham because of course when someone takes another life that's TOTALLY different. But just because he was love-sick over her and couldn't let her go, that does not deserve 10 yrs. Even if he did threaten her, stock her, after about 2-3 years, he would've gotten over her. Anyways, my ex was incarcerated about 2 years ago, he was sentenced to 8 YEARS just because he was in the passenger seat with his friend driving drugs from Texas to Missouri. Both, their first time offenses, ever, in their entire life and they ended up with 8 years each. His friend was 19 and my ex was 21. He left me with 2 babies, 2 & 3. They are now going on 5 & 6. They have only seen him once since then because we live in Texas. Oklahoma's system is too harsh. and if their life is so much greater in there than ours out here, like some have mentioned, then what's even the point of keeping them in their even longer than they actually deserve?????

How can any one say we are to hard on inmates in Oklahoma. they get cable televison, they can buy snacks at a cheaper price than we can, they dont have to work or go to school to try to get better they just have to lay there, and when their food is to cold or to hot they want to sue. they yell pity me when you catch them doing something wrong. i say give them more time and take away all the stuff that makes it easy for them.. Take away the good time make them do 90% of the time they were sentenced to. I have no pity for a crook. I work hard every day for what i have they can steal or kill and we should feel bad for them.. well not me I want them in prison. we need to be harder on inmates that way they wont want to do any more crimes to come back.. and yes I belive in the 3 strikes you get life

no again you are wrong, they are issued one pair of grays, one pair of shoes, one coat,a bar of soap, and toothpaste, one sheet, one blanket, one roll of toilet paper upon getting there. unless they can prove they are indegent, the state will not issue them anything else.the families do.so don't worry,if you work, and if you pay taxes as i do,you pay only to support the building, staff, and the wardens a nice place to live.you say you used to work at facility? did you get fired or just quit? you still do not know of what you speak.

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Virgo

Words are flying around in all directions today, and the conversations will be fast and furious. You might face a lot of distractions and interruptions, or you could get caught up in some rather irritable slanging matches with a certain person. The busier you are, the more fraught you'll become and the more likely to go off the deep end.
