They didn't use the main valve because all the other meters would have stopped turning and then they would have a ton of pilot lights to re light. So instead they took a chance of an explosion that could have caused great damage and and injuries.

You have to wonder, did they neglect to call Underground Service Alert or was the line mismarked?

Years ago I worked for a big city water dept. One time we hit a gas line. It was no big deal. We called out the gas company. They told us not to worry, it couldnt blow up. They then proceeded to patch it with a torch-no big deal.

Yeah Homer, I'm sure you're right. The guys from PG&E decided they're rather stand right next to the broken pipe and risk an explosion rather than light a few more pilot lights. Yes, I'm sure you're on to something. Jeez.

If PG&E were being honest, they'd be publicly admitting that they marked the gas line in the wrong place. But if they keep quiet, the construction company has to take the fall for this. Call PG&E and ask. They'll dance around the question.

It would be of great service if the Times Standard would require a persons full name and /or a member account login to be required for people to leave any sort of a comment regarding any article that is posted. This would truely hold people accountable for their words and could even stop slandering and bashing of good honest businesses such as Alves Inc. People really need to get the facts before making assumptions. I was deeply saddened to see the sort of negative and defaming comments implicted towards Alves Inc. Maybe in the future Times Standard could be a little more aggressive in stopping the posts of slanderers.

See that 'Report as Abuse' option? Use it then ignore them. The post may get deleted.

Daily Horoscope for December 7

Aries

The level of sexual chemistry flowing between you and you-know-who is so powerful right now that you could almost reach out and touch it. This could lead to some X-rated scenes but there's also a chance that it could go another way and provoke a combustible atmosphere. So do your best to steer the situation in whichever direction you want it to take.
