Seriously, I'm really a nice guy and just brimming over with tolerance, but some of these "Christian" people would try the patience of Job with their intolerance and insults. I stand corrected when I lose my temper...they rarely do. I know that you were not talking to me, but I'm going to step in. I have noticed this about you, and so have others. Please believe me when I say it is not all Christians, and I know that you know this. I think it is religion instead of Christianity that is the problem. The ones that insult relentlessly make a mockery of Christianity.

Sociology wrote: <quoted text>They thought you were me! That's funny. I choose Wiki, because it may be a concept that can be grasped by an average reader, but I'm not finding it to be true. Either that or they are blowing it off and not reading. What I wonder is, how they can believe and argue with people on here, and watch the news, who by the way puts out approximately the same amount of mis-information, and even more propaganda, and takes it in as gospel. If they know more than wiki, or do not agree with it, why not argue it? What is even more funny is that someone either hates you, because they think you are me, or hates me, because they think I am you. LOL You'd be surprised who they THINK I am! They sometime make ME feel schizophrenic! I've actually been accused of being paid to write on here. My question is "Where do I pick up my check?" LOL No, Wiki can be unreliable, but it is a good place to start when looking for information. I often go directly to the footnotes, which lead, of course, to other sources. That being said, I have read history pieces on Wiki I KNOW to be true because I have friends who wrote them and I know their work and integrity. You have to understand many of the people on here watch only FOX News or read other right-wing sources. They do that because those sources tell them what they already believe or want to believe. It is human nature to listen what one already holds dear, and sources such as FOX have learned to capitalize on that human weakness. It continues to amaze me that people sitting in front of the most powerful information tool in human history are still able to filter out what they simply don't want to hear. OK....for all you reading this: Hate Pantsonfire or hate Sociology but don't hate us as one. It makes us feel so, well, schizophrenic! LOL

I hold that fundamentalist religions of all stripes is the most dangerous force facing the world today. They are RIGHT simple because they believe God or Allah told them so and have little tolerance for any other point of view.

LOL I am pretty sure the schizophrenic accusation is an attempt to decrease credibility. The making you feel schizo is a tactic used by, well, I won't get into that. As far as Fox or any other news goes, there is much propaganda, any way that you look at it. We have the same views on wiki. It is a place to start if you are interested. I look at the sources, and know the experts in my field have made contributions to the Wiki information. The problem is the unwillingness to even look. There is also like this big push to stay within your group, and not let any other information or people in. Have you noticed that? It is almost like a fear of new information. People stay within the confines of their group. It is almost like educational and emotional incest.

LOL Topix is one of the best forms of learning for a sociology student. I would hope that if there are some students learning from this site, they learn tolerance, ethics, and debating without hating. You and I don't agree on a whole lot, but we do share a common few interests, as does everybody on the planet. We can work together to make it better, or we can fight it out and make it worse. Individually and collectively.

People stay within the confines of their group. It is almost like educational and emotional incest. No, they are not even willing to look. I suspect they are afraid of learning something that would challenge their dearly held beliefs. Or maybe they are simply intellectually lazy....it is SO much easier to dash off a one line post than to actually do a little research. I've posted links to many subjects on here, but it is clear they are never even looked at. It is one thing to read both sides of an issue THEN disagree...but it is quite telling when people refuse to even look at the other side. As far as the emotional incest, I chalk that up to mob mentality. I often defend "lost causes" on here simply because even the "least of our brothers" deserve defense, not necessarily because I belive in their cause. At the end of the day, I picture myself as a sheriff holding off the lynch mob long enough for the accused to stand trial. It's often a Constitutional issue with me. Even the most guilty deserve the legal system WE have agreed to live under. I can only conclude many of the self-styled "patriots" who would usurp the US Constituion actually have a piss-poor opinion of Constitution and legal process they CLAIM to uphold. Up late tonight with the Queen Mother of all Colds...medicated...and having a great discussion with you! LOL

I am a Conservative (note upper case "C" of the Old School bent) who has departed (been driven away from) the closed-minded neo-conservative fold. Perhaps surprisingly, I have many conservative views. As you point out, we of this planet share common goals. One thing I have learned from my travels is that "people are just people." The only thing that keeps us apart and hating are those with closed minds that influence us....if we allow them.

Stop....my side is hurtin' Just because I agree with some things does not mean I agree with all, and if you do look at other sources, then why are you offended? I think there is very few resources that are unbiased. News creates the biggest fear around and they are leading the country with their views, and if they said Obama is the messiah or the next Manson, I wouldn't believe them, because of what the news said, or anyone else. What interests me is the way that you attack people that have a conversation, especially when it is nice. Do you not understand the concept? How many souls do you have to kill in order to meet your quota? I'm just wondering so I will stop bugging you about it until it's met.

If it's your opinion that if you look at other sources what difference does it make what the source is? FOX news is a source so is CNN, what cracks me up is that because others don't share your opionion they are uneducated or intellectually lazy. Is that nice???? So in some long drawn out babbling post they try to attack our intelligence, it's their only defense! A VERY WEAK defense but they gotta come back with something..........

Well, just maybe some of your much hated "know it alls" have actually cracked a book instead of dashing off oneliners on Topix. We apparently have on here a person who has studied sociology. Do what you will, but he/she may just have something to teach me so I'm gonna pay attention. I wonder what you call someone who has little knowledge of a subject yet tries to best someone who actually has a great deal? Uh, a "know-it-all," maybe?
