They can do what ever they want. Criminals get their guns from stealing. I think they should have a law, to report stolen guns. You protect yourself from persecution and liability. Mayors should worry more of running teir cities. Leave gun control up to police chiefs and gov. Life mem. of N.R.A.

Rodney has it right more cost here little effect on the criminals |

i think if you are charged with a gun crime you shouldnt be able to buy a gun or a knife.the govt needs to get off there butts and look into the future.the kids see its ok to hurt ppl with guns and knifes.i have family that dont understand that its not ok to hurt ppl.gov t needs to start doing this now before its to late.and also if you are from another country and you get in trouble with the law you should be sent back.no matter what.

Dave - they can not take away our rights! Our rights are inherent in our persons. The only thing they can do is write & pass an un-constitutional law. Let's see them enforce it. It'll be a hot time in the ole town if they've got the 'nads to attempt to disarm 100 million gun owners. |
||||
NO law will stop crime! From an ex-federal officer. Criminals by their very definition do not obey laws. Punish the criminals not the victims of stolen property. |

This law will never hold up in court. Who is in charge of the official stopwatch? How many people know the exact time that their property is stolen? If the owner of the stolen gun does not know the exact time of the theft,how could the police truly know when 72 hours has passed? If the owner of the gun is a straw purchaser he would probably file the serial number off the gun before he sold it so it could not be traced back to him. To sum it up,this law is useless as far as criminals are concerned,a pain in the butt for law abiding gun owners and impossible for a prosecutor to win in court.

This law is a waste of time and money. If someone who owns a gun legally and knows it is stolen ,it is common sense to report it stolen. I don't see what that is going to do, by the time the report is written, the "criminals" already have the serial # filed down and probably committed a crime with it.
Tougher laws for these thugs is the way to go. They have more rights than the victims do.(and law-abiding people who have the right to protect their home and families) Common sense--I just don't get it:( |

I am a legal gun owner with a permit to carry legally..How many criminals have one? How is this possibly going to curb illegal weapons ?? If I know my weapon was stolen I'd report it for my protection..But charging me with a crime if it took more than 24 hrs. to discover??? I hope on Thurs. the house passes SB40 for the Castle Doctrine so if I use force in my home or on my property the crminal and their family can no longer SUE ME !!!! Right now you can be sued in civil court for stopping someone who broke into your home...That stinks !!

MAYOR SAL PANTO -(D) EASTON: "If you lose your gun or it's stolen, within 72 hours report it. Because what's happening is we have a lot of straw purchases being made."
Panto can't even differentiate between a stolen gun and a legally sold gun. ---------- "Panto says that when someone purchases a gun for a convicted felon and it is used in a crime,[PANTO]: "That's wrong, we trace the gun back to her, she says, oh that gun was stolen. But it didn't have to be reported." 1:They don't always sell to a felon. 2:Mostly it is used in a crime, but not always. 3:She was so dumb, the serial numbers were not removed. But when they learn to file the numbers away some guns won't be traceable anyway. 4:The best part of this stupid mayor: Panto::"...she says, oh that gun was stolen. But it didn't have to be reported." If she buys a gun for a felon (ignoring the law) why would she report a stolen gun (and obey the law). If she's a gun blackmarket dealer what makes anyone believe she'll obey the reporting law ? A law requiring reporting lost or stolen guns will be ignored by blackmarket buyers/sellers (the people who sell guns to dangerous felons), but will only be applied to law-abiding gun owners (people who usually don't buy or sell guns for profit). So what's wrong with the reporting law ? It applies only to the law-abiding, not the criminal. Therefore it will not have a positive effect on crime. ---------- "The coalition of mayors believes that forcing people to report stolen guns will steer people away from making straw purchases." Most blackmarket guns are legally purchased by the blackmarket gun sellers (from gun stores). Therefore, most illegal guns (pardon the expression) are not stolen guns. Again: "The coalition of mayors believes that forcing people to report stolen guns will steer people away from making straw purchases." If you eliminate the market for stolen guns then you increase the market for straw purchases. And, straw buyers regenerate; you can't eliminate them. Everytime a person becomes 21 years of age (an act of nature) they become eligible to be a gun blackmarket buyer and seller (if they don't have a detectable criminal record). No law will force all gun owners (legal or not) to report lost or stolen guns. And some guns are stolen from people who are prohibited by law from owning them anyway. Some victims of gun theft don't know when their guns are stolen. A gun owner could be vacationing for several weeks. How could he report his stolen gun within 72 hours ? Gun control laws fail to achieve the intended result (most laws do). Gun control laws are immoral (they leave us vulnerable and create victims), illegal (unconstitutional), and don't reduce crime, they increase crime. Why create more gun laws when already there are over 20,000 of them that have not reduced crime. Chicago bans handguns, assault rifles, most ammunition, many other types of weapons, and has a high crime rate. We can't eliminate crime (it's a by product of a pluralistic free society). But we can protect ourselves from most crime by arming ourselves with weapons. We must do the opposite of what most politicians want us to do - arm ourselves and assume responsibility for our own personal safety. |

You want to decrease crime in this country? One way to do it is to change our punishments. This country is one big gigantic bleeding heart. People who commit murder should be put to death the very next day after a fair trial.
People who shoot others and maim them for life should be sentenced with the same injury. I'm pretty sure if we were to become callous towards criminals and make up some idiotic law to remove guns from the streets, it will make it far worse for those of us who own a gun LEGALLY. Make the punishments far worse for people who commit the crimes and stop punishing those of us who can make it through life without injuring or killing another human being. You can never eliminate crime, it's not going to happen. If you increase the penalty for the crimes, it's sure going to make people think twice before they pull the trigger. It's called and eye for an eye. |

Our system of justice (and how we treat criminals) was designed by people who were much more tough on criminals than we are today.
That system was designed, not to coddle criminals, but to protect innocent people from being persecuted by the govt. For example: If we allowd police to torture suspects, we would need wheelchairs (or ambulances) to be located at every police station. The criminals would seldom be tortured (because they have the information the cops want.) But the innocent suspects would receive the torture (because they're the suspects that don't have the info the cops want). All others would say anything they thought the cops wanted to hear (placing innocent people in jail, or on death row). |

We don't enforce half the laws now, why more. Nobody ebnforces border security, nobody enfoces illegal use of guns now because they let the permits the batttrds to plead to lesser charges, etc. And lately with the many knifings, why aren't we licensing butter knives and plastic forks, etc. You mayors can't control your urine stream, leave my guns alone.
|
||||
I totally agree with what u say, but they will end up with the upper hand. I think the way they will have there way with us by financial and nutritional ways. |
||||
|
They need to focus on enforcing the laws that are already in place not creating new ones that punish the people who have not commited a crime.
They want to convince us that these laws are for the good of all, they just want to erode away our rights a bit at a time, vote - send the message that anyone who goes against your rights will not get your vote the next time - that is what they truely care about |
