Maybe they are closing the store becuase there is Wegmans across the street? Why would they put the PriceRite there also?
We all new this would happen the minute Wegmans opened....well took a couple of years but it did happen.
I wish luck to the employees.
It's not because of Wegmans, it's Walmart. Before Walmart was to open there ,there was a stipulation in the lease that Walmart agreed to and that was they would not add a supercenter or sell groceries and I guess it hurt Redners sales and Walmart won the right to do whatever they wanted.

I thought this store closed a long time ago. Redner's is a pretty cheap store, but they have to get with the times when it comes to the design of their stores. They all looks like they are stuck in 1988 with the red and tan color scheme. I like the fact that they are a local chain, and I might shop there if there was one near me.

I don't shop at Wegman's because the closest one is 10 miles from me. Not worth going out of my way to shop there, but I will stop by their chinese bar once or twice a year when I'm in the area.

I won't shop at Giant simply because they are foreign owned.

I do most of my shopping at Weis/King's. Local chain, prices are decent in comparison to the other chains, and the employees seem helpful. I have been shopping there for about 12 years, so I know where everything is.

I believe that Walmart owns the shopping center, so I am sure they have some nice loopholes in their lease. Wegmans probably did not have much to do with their demise, because both of those stores serve customers on opposite sides of the spectrum, but WM shoppers more closely resemble Redners shoppers.

Redner's is a great store. I shop at the one in Trexlertown. Yes, it is no-frills, but the good prices without an annoying club card is always nice. They have been remodeling many of them and they are nice looking. The new one built on Route 145 is sparkly, and is always clean (so is T-town). The produce is usually locally grown, and their selection of meat is usually pretty quality.

Yes, Redner's and Wegmans cater to different crowds, but Redner's is by no means a "low class store" or whatever someone called it. Their simplicity and family-owned atmosphere makes it a great place to shop.

I agree - I shop at the Redner's in Trexlertown all the time! I am a stay-at-home mom to three kids - and raising three kids on one income is no easy job these days! I am thankful for the great prices at Redners!
I love the locally grown produce, and the low prices on the grocery items. Their sales on meats are super, and the deli clerks are more than happy to slice deli meats fresh (I do have to agree that the pre-sliced stuff just isn't the best all the time!).
Plus - the cashiers bag your items for you AND put the bags in the cart! They certainly don't do that at Giant or Walmart.
I love Wegman's as a "treat" sometimes, but I love Redner's for every day savings on my groceries!

The Redner's disgusting? When were you in? That store is never dirty. I shop there all the time. I use the one in Palmer too, now that will be my prime store.
The other comments are true. When Redner's opened there, Wal-Mart was not SuperStore. It was a matter of time until it closed. I am surprised it lasted this long.
But, you don't have a clue what you are talking about if you think the place was dirty. That it was not.
I have been there on many occasions. It is dirty compared to the Wegmans or even the giant in Forks. The meats are lower grade and look terrible. The only thing is I don't see Walmart has better in any way and Walmart's prices aren't that great.

I don't really have a favorite. I do shop at Wegman's and if you buy the same stuff you buy anywhere else, it is competative. If you buy the gourmet section, yeah, you pay for it.

I like Redner's because I don't have to have one of the gawd aweful buyers cards. They are used to track what we buy. I am sorry, but I think there is enough Big Brother without someone knowing how often I buy toilet paper.

I like Giant, foreign or not. It is clean and the prices, once again are cometetive.

I even like PriceRite. It is a place you can find vegetables and ethnic foods that none of the others have, including gourmet sections.

Only place I never never shop is Weis. I got moldy stuff there twice and that was enough. I will admit they were very kind and quick to take it back and give me vouchers but when you get steak and butter that is bad, enough

All this entire conversation has proved is that there is plenty of room in the greater Lehigh Valley for more than one chain of supermarkets.

You all need to agree to disagree over which is best and which is worst.

There are plenty of more pressing issues.

And WalMart is owned by a company in Arkansas. I'll stick with the Dutch.

Wegman's has some good buys and their food is better even if it does cost a bit more. THey have an excellent organic and healthfood section. Think of the extra money you spend there as an investment in your future healthcare costs. Or you can be a typical Pennsylvania redneck and live on bleached flour bread, perogies and ring bologna.

You are correct. I plan to make an effort to shop at Wegmans in the near future. However, I like perogies and at Aharts I found some for $1.55 a bag. The sodium content was only 280 mgs. For perogies that is good.

What's snobbish about that? The valley has a high obesity rate and poor health statistics. It isn't wrong to point that out, get with it. If you have a fat mother-in-law and wife, get on 'em. Tell your wife to lose weight. More importantly, set an example to everyone around you and follow the food groups that they starting teaching in the 1951 Kindergarten. There is no reason to eat wrong food and be unhealthy today. My point was you think the government should provide free health care and that's wrong.
If you think it's expensive now, just wait til it's free.

Oh, and the fact that you added the comment of calling anyone who doesn't agree with you "Pennsylvania rednecks" is not snobbish. A large and resounding "WHATEVER" to you dear.

My health is quite fine living in and enjoying PA. You certainly don't need Wegmans to purchase health food -- there's an excellent health food store downtown Easton for the past 30 yrs. I find Redners, Weis and Giant a bit more friendlier, however, and Wegman's a bit "stuffy". Sorry, but I'm just a regular person who enjoys all kinds of people except those who have large egos! Seriously though, if you don't like PA, please leave!
