Morning routine turns deadly
David M. Walterick was starting his day Tuesday as he did most others -- at 3 a.m., over a cup of coffee with his wife at their kitchen table.

Legalize drugs. We should adopt the same policies as most of Europe and England has currently done. Making drugs so attractive by keeping them illegal and therefore very profitible and expensive is at the root of most robberies and murders. Lets face it, the main attraction to the gangs is the money to be made. People don't rob and kill to buy beer but they do all the time to buy harder drugs. We pay the price with higher taxes for an insufficient police force to deal with the problem, paying to keep them in jail for nonviolent drug crimes, paying the armed forces to patrol the air and ocean and we still have to pay with our lives. No more drug pushers in our neighborhoods and schools. Want to begin using heroin? Go see your doctor and get a script, it's the only place you could get it because illegal drug dealers couldn't make any money on it. It would be like dealing beer. Face it, the war on drugs isn't working and we need to do something. Obviously, current policy DOES NOT WORK! Not only would it cut down down on violent crime here, it would undermind terrorist activity that is also supported at least in part by drug money. Imagine the huge change in places like Afganastan. Okay, the taliban wants control of the poppy fields because of the huge profits to be made. We could make it no more profitable than coffee! Bam, soon our soliders would come home.

I really hate what's happening in this town. I've lived in Allentown all of my life and it's a shame what's happening here and in many other cities. The vermin responsible should be wiped out. I hope the police can catch these creeps and they get the maximum penalty. Something has to be done when a family can't even be safe in their own home. It's possible this murder could be a gang initiation right. Whatever the reason, I hope they get them.

The city of Allentown welcomes criminals into their community. They have to expect that along with criminals comes criminal activity.

It caught me as intersting that there were two intruders I imagined one and why they made it an armed robery rather than a burglary. Its so dense there to you think they would have had a third lookout in the alley and cross street.

This is really a shame that this is going on in Allentown and keeps on getting worse. Something should be done about the characters walking the streets at night. I do not know what the answer is maybe cufew. People are so stupid today to take kindness and caring for neighbors as being wealthy but that is our society today. Teachers cannot correct kids and parents cannot correct kids do where do our kids go. I feel sorry for the police as they are stuck with both elements as the do gooders in our country have destroyed our laws. I mean ACLU etc groups.

You are absolutely right.

There is a lot being done to combat this type of crime. Perhaps you are too busy complaining to see it. On the punitive side the Police have a gang task force and a special homocide task force. Also the DA is using a Grand Jury to compel testimony. On the preventative side there are educational programs such as ESL and PSSA testing, as well as volunteer programs like Big Brother. If everything that the Government is doing is wrong, then what should be done? |

Allentown is like a wild west town, they better get Wyatt Earp back. Better still have a gun check at the toll booth on !-78 when you enter PA from NYC..........Halupki Ed so far hasn't lived up to his campaign promises either.

Sounds like a good, hard working man ... such a pity.
My heart and prayers go out to the family and friends of David. May the police find the murderers and may justice be done! |

The victims probably knew the intruders/killers. Knowing how nice this man was, they will have a conscious and come forward to admit to the robbery gone wrong, considering they have a conscious.

Let's pass a law that requires the police to strip search anyone wearing a hoody.

Clearly it isn't enough! There has to be a change in culture ... one unified culture that proclaims there is a preciousness about human life. Of course, to destroy a culture, any conquerer would say ... destroy the language. So, secondly, we need a unifying language for a unifying culture, one that promotes life ... it must be seen everywhere from the schools to the churches and beyond. Alas, but I shall be labeled a bigot, for how dare I promote the unification of a culture, one that values life ... lest we have no more murders! Maybe a casino will come and save us all or we can punish people into behaving as we see fit! |

Who Are You said: legalize drugs."
I disagree! You must not get out much. Most robberies are not committed because people buy drugs. Simply, robberies are committed because people want your "stuff", money or personal property. |

horrible! this story is so sad.

Could be random....but maybe not. very few people get dead randomly. maybe the neighbor of the year was'nt as squeeky clean as everyone thought. i hope for the family's sake he was. but, this sounds like an execution to me.

I really hope they catch the sob who did this. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
