Judge it!
For what it's worth, I can take a similar picture of an airplane landing at any airport simply by standing below power lines and aiming the camera up through the power lines. When you consider this balloon is at least as tall as a 5 story building, you can see it was a pretty good distance from the power lines shown in the picture. Now if you could see the whites of the pilot's eyes, that would be a different matter. It's just a matter of perspective.

Hot Air Balloon Makes Emergency Landing
A hot air balloon had a very close call in Kingsport when it started to deflate! The balloon traveled around the city nearly landing on a road during a race over the weekend.

I do not understand why your station attempted to sensationalize a non-event. The photo of the balloon "narrowly missing power lines" is deceptive as the balloon is not even close!
Every balloon "deflates" at the end of the flight. This is Yellow Journalism at it's finest. Were I the pilot of the balloon or a local commercial company I would be seeking an attorney and proceeding with libel charges as your story has the potential of damaging local ride companies reputations and income. |

We would like to commend News 15 for promptly pulling the story.
We spoke to the News Director and the story was pulled from CNN. It was not their reporters that made up such a ridiculous story. |
