1 Never shopped there again. That was 11 years ago. I've spent $2000 some odd dollars elsewhere on books since then. Good bye! won't be missed. |

Happy that the one in Lancaster is staying open. Employees there are knowledgeable and friendly.

That might explain why their sales suffer. I too had not heard of them in many, many years. |

Wow, you can really hold a grudge! |

Who reads books anymore by actually buying a physical book? It's the 21st century...everything is online!

Waldenbooks- What a TIRED brand. If I were Borders I would close them all.
Of course, Waldenbooks probably fills a niche in DEAD MALLS like Tuttle where there are no other bookstores. |
||||
They still exist in older, dead or dying malls as well as in thriving but dated regional malls. Once a mall is built, remodeled, or "Lifestyled" ala Easton the new malls almost always go with a B&N or Borders store. I bet they take a sizeable hit not only from the megasized bookstores, but also from the expansion of big box and grocery store booksellers. |

Borders has been running a distant second to Barnes and Noble for a while now, without even counting Amazon.
I'm not surprised about teh Polaris on closing - especially after the B&N superstore opened on the east end of the shopping center, after moving across Polaris Blvd. |

I feel sorry for the workers. If the government would have concentrated on the economy and jobs instead of socialized medicine and the climate change scam this might not have happened.

I'm with you. It's been so long since I saw a Waldenbooks that I thought Borders had already dissolved the Waldenbooks chain. |

Waldenbooks are still around. They tend to be inside indoor malls and in airport concourses, and places like that where space is limited. |

I knew the writing was on the wall for the Polaris Fashion Place store once Barnes & Noble moved from the Polaris Towne Center across the street to the Polaris Lifestyle Center at the mall. I am surprised it held on for this long after Barnes & Noble opened. I do love the calendar kiosks.

Waldenbooks works for small-town malls, like the one near the rural town where I grew up. Right now Waldenbooks is the only popular bookstore within a 15-minute drive from my parents' house. They'd have to go at least 45 minutes to find a Barnes & Noble or a Borders. I hope they don't all go away - maybe they're not right for large cities like Columbus, but for some places, they're better than no bookstores at all.
